This article is about Piccolo Jr.. For other name uses, see Piccolo (Disambiguation).

Piccolo Jr. (ピッコロ・ジュニア Pikkoro Junia, lit. “Piccolo Junior”), usually just called Piccolo or Kamiccolo and also known as Ma Junior (マジュニア Majunia), is a Namekian and also the final child and reincarnation of King Piccolo, later becoming the reunification of the Nameless Namekian after fusing with Kami. According to Grand Elder Guru, Piccolo, along with Kami and King Piccolo, are part of the Dragon Clan, who were the original creators of the Dragon Balls.

A wise and cunning warrior, he was the main antagonist in the final saga of Dragon Ball, the Piccolo Jr. Saga, and was thus a ruthless enemy of Goku. However, starting with the first saga of Dragon Ball Z, the Raditz Saga, he began to lose all villainous traits, and when he started training Goku’s son Gohan during the Vegeta Saga which led to the two developing a strong bond with each other, he became a permanent member of the Dragon Team and eventually one of Earth’s greatest heroes.

Piccolo with his manga colors (WJ #12, 1993)

Piccolo is a very tall and muscular Namekian. While greatly resembling his father/incarnation, he is noticeably shorter and somewhat thinner. He also has a more solid facial structure with less pronounced cheekbones, a rounder chin, and a straight nose. Piccolo only has four fingers with black nails in the Dragon Ball manga, but five fingers with white nails in the anime series and the Dragon Ball Super manga. Piccolo Jr.’s outfit when he was a kid is very similar to the one King Piccolo is first seen wearing, with the same color scheme shown on the Kanzenban manga covers. From the time he is a young adult onward, Piccolo wears a dark purplish-blue gi, pointy orange shoes and sky blue obi (red in the manga). When not fighting seriously, Piccolo also wears a white turban with a dark purplish-blue top and a white cape along with it.

Like Goku, Piccolo generally wears and trains with Weighted clothing. The cape itself is not weighted, but there is weighted padding underneath; this is seen twice in the series: when his cape is damaged while fighting Frieza in his second form, and when it is damaged by Lord Slug’s henchmen. As the series went on, Piccolo Jr.’s outfit became more his own and by the time he faced the Androids. The outfit’s neckline becomes more low-cut like Goku’s outfit, minus Goku’s own undershirt. In the manga, many of the movies, and certain video games (Supersonic Warriors 2 and Super Dragon Ball Z), Piccolo wears a red obi rather than a sky blue one.

Even though Piccolo Jr. discards his old symbol, he uses it once in the series when he made his pupil Gohan a uniform after his previous outfit was torn in a Great Ape transformation. In a filler episode in the anime, when both of them are forced by Goku’s wife Chi-Chi to go to driving school, Piccolo wears an old outfit of Goku’s, which he despised wearing.[10]

Throughout the franchise, regardless of Piccolo’s allegiance, his general demeanor has always been stern, if not grumpy, with an indifferent attitude towards others. Piccolo rarely smiles and enjoys solitude. Piccolo is frequently seen meditating in quiet places and drinking thawed ice water in the north area.[3] However, he shows a noticeable cockiness when fighting. He can also be very confrontational toward people, showing very direct and honest opinions about a situation or an individual. Piccolo is known for his very precise and efficient methods in battle and likewise is shown to be very analytical and tactical in battle, able to see through his opponent’s skills and weaknesses to devise effective strategies for victory. In the Baby Saga, Baby openly acknowledged Piccolo as one of the most brilliant fighters in the galaxy.

Originally, Piccolo inherited his father/former self’s desire for world domination and destroying Goku. He was determined to prove his superiority and possessed many of the villainous properties of his father, such as a violent and destructive nature and a total disregard for anything besides victory. This was shown during his battle with Goku in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, where he shows almost no mercy for his opponent, breaking all of Goku’s limbs while laughing sadistically, believing it was necessary after what Goku had done to his father. Despite all this, Piccolo was not without a measure of restraint and honor, as he for no reason saved a mother and daughter from debris during a storm.[11] He also let Krillin walk away after submitting in the tournament. Piccolo has also shown traits of pragmatism, teaming up with his archrival Goku and later the rest of the Z Fighters when the threat of the Saiyans proves to be too much for him alone, citing the aliens’ defeat as a shared goal. According to Goku, his overall evil nature became more of a stubborn and angry attitude than flat-out villainous.

After his battle against Goku, Piccolo gradually began to develop for the better as the evil nature only dwelled through his desire to destroy Goku inherited from his father/former self. Later, when he and Goku team up to battle Raditz, Piccolo began to show more respect during the battle, even commemorating Goku on his noble sacrifice despite still considering him an enemy and, during the battle against Nappa, praised the other Z Fighters’ bravery and tactics.

While training Goku’s young son, Gohan, while originally only for to prepare for the coming Saiyans, Piccolo’s heart and motives quickly begin to change as the boy takes his time to talk with Piccolo and have normal discussions that do not result in a violent outbreak, this stemming from Gohan agreeing on Goku’s views of Piccolo now being more grumpy than truly evil. During the time he was training Gohan, both Mr. Popo and Kami noted the change in Piccolo’s personality with Mr. Popo noting he was no longer the Demon King of old referencing his loss of Demon Clan status and Kami himself surmised that he had the same premonition of death that Kami himself had and that Piccolo wanted to leave behind some kind of legacy even if it was in the son of his sworn enemy. Around the start of Gohan’s training Piccolo told Gohan that if he feels resentment towards him, then he should curse his own fate like Piccolo did, indicating Kami was right about Piccolo’s motivation. During the battle with Nappa, Piccolo goes as far as to sacrifice his life to save Gohan, stating how his friendship and love had changed him forever. Piccolo has stated that Gohan was the first person to see him not as a monster and was proud to call him his friend. From then on, Piccolo became very protective of Gohan, proud in his growth as a man and seeing Gohan a surrogate-son, to which Gohan himself came to care for Piccolo as a dear uncle or even second father. This also truly cemented his change from evil to good and a true friend and team-mate for the Z Fighters. He also came to view Goku in a similar light as a dear friend and ally as after being teleported from the self-destructing Planet Namek and learning of Goku’s intentions, Piccolo noted he would have preferred to fight alongside the noble warrior to the end, showing his respect for the Earth’s savior.

Piccolo and the two Namekians who inhabit his body

Despite having spent most of his life unaware of his origins as an alien rather than a demon and shocked to learn such, Piccolo came to appreciate learning this truth. To which, upon learning of Frieza’s genocidal attack on the Namekians, Piccolo was determined to fight Frieza and avenge his people, even when King Kai warned him of the danger Frieza’s might possesses. After fusing with Nail and acquiring all his knowledge of Namekian culture, Piccolo felt whole as a person, now able to understand his roots. The greatest change in his character was when he made the choice to remerge with Kami so he could battle the androids. Kami’s willingness to do this showed how little evil was left in Piccolo, trusting that Piccolo would use the extra strength along with Kami’s divine powers and centuries-worth of experience for good. Once reunited, all remaining traces of evil disappeared from Piccolo. While still having a stern demeanor for the most part, Piccolo showed genuine compassion for all living being beyond those he deemed a friend, as he tried to get Cell to spare the man in Ginger Town. Furthermore, during the Fusion Saga, when Super Buu exterminates the human race with a single attack, Piccolo drops to his knees, both in shame for suggesting Buu to kill more humans (believing that it was necessary in order to bide time for Goten and Trunks to train, and as the Earthlings could be restored to life with the Dragon Balls) and horror, with Piccolo desperately hoping for redemption and vowing to bring them all back to life. Although he still has little to say unless it involves battle and does not seem to understand the concept of romance, referring to it as “mushy stuff”, although this is understandable since Namekians lack romantic relations.

Piccolo, both stressed and angry

As Piccolo carries on in life, he becomes slightly more relaxed and joyful, which simultaneously made it easier to stress and annoy him. He would partake and enjoy various parties and social events, including Bulma’s birthday and Gohan’s wedding. Even more, in Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo’s kindness continued to show, displaying a gentler and nurturing side, helping in the raising of Pan, showing a very efficient job of it as he had a whole list set up on what to do for the baby and genuinely enjoyed it. His raising of Pan also shows his more joyful and silly side, playing Peek-a-Boo with Pan when no one was looking and revealing that he actually sings to Pan whenever she cried at night. In Dragon Ball GT, his compassion and selflessness was even willing to sacrifice his life permanently to make sure the Black Star Dragon Balls remained unusable. While encouraging Gohan to find his own path in life, he still firmly believes that Gohan must keep up his training to better protect that which he loves. To which, he proudly accepted Gohan’s request to retraining him after the second battle against Frieza cost Piccolo his life again to save Gohan. During which, Piccolo retains his harsh and merciless training methods, all in the goal of restoring Gohan’s fighting instinct and true power.

Unlike most Namekians, Piccolo has a history of consuming solid food in addition to the Namekian’s normally liquid diet of water. As a child, he is seen catching and eating a fish. Even after it is revealed Namekians only require water to survive, Piccolo occasionally eats solid food. In Dragon Ball Super he can be seen occasionally with a plate of food during various social gathers implying Piccolo eats socially. However, his favorite food is water from the Northern Mountains indicating he still retains a normal Namekian diet in addition to eating solid food.

In Xenoverse, Piccolo is shown to have learned from his father’s mistakes even using Master Mutaito’s defeat of King Piccolo with the Denshi Jar and Evil Containment Wave as an analogy of why one must use whatever items or abilities one has at their disposal to win. This is further shown in the original manga/anime by Piccolo’s development of the Evil Containment Wave Reflection technique which he used to counter Kami’s use of the Evil Containment Wave essentially removing the one threat his father had feared the most.

Young Piccolo

After being punched through the chest and killed by Goku’s Penetrate! attack, King Piccolo’s last action was to spit out an egg containing his child and reincarnation Piccolo Jr, who was to avenge his death. Upon Piccolo’s birth, he still remembered all of King Piccolo’s memories and techniques.[12] Piccolo Jr.’s egg eventually flows down a river and is found by an elderly woman. The woman gets her husband, and wonders what it is. Before they can decide what to do with the egg, Piccolo hatches. The newly emerged Piccolo then destroys their home. Piccolo Jr. spends the next three years in intensive training, preparing himself for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, where he knew Goku would be a contestant, with the intent to kill him and realize his parent’s dream of taking over the world. During the three-year wait till the tournament, Piccolo wanders the Earth and trains for his revenge against Goku. During his wandering, he encounters a family celebrating the birthday of a young boy named Tai. During the boy’s birthday celebration, Piccolo vandalizes their home and then runs away from their dog when Tai’s father orders it to chase him. When the dog nearly catches up to the young Namekian, Piccolo blasts it away in fear with a beam, realizing some of the potentials he has.

Piccolo as a young adult

After spending the three years training, a now physically adolescent Piccolo enters the tournament using the alias “Junior” (“Ma Junior” (マジュニア) in the Japanese manga and anime, with “Ma” meaning demon). The day before the tournament, Piccolo saves a kid from falling rubble, but then people run away after they see him. Piccolo manages to find Goku before the tournament properly begins, and Piccolo reminds himself not to let Goku win, and he must avenge his father.

When the tournament starts, Piccolo easily breezed past the preliminaries and into the finals. From there he first faced off against Goku’s friend Krillin. Though Piccolo managed to beat him with relative ease, even believing at one point that he had killed the small warrior, Piccolo was surprised by Krillin’s resilience, and his ability to fly. Krillin even managed to score a hit, but missed Piccolo using a Kamehameha blast, as Piccolo had used an afterimage trick, and managed to knock Krillin back to the ground. In their fight, Krillin eventually gave up, realizing he could not beat Piccolo.

Hero punches Piccolo

His next match is against a powerful but awkward human named Hero, whom Piccolo soon discovers he was actually Kami, the good counterpart of Piccolo, in disguise by means of possessing a weak, everyday human. When Kami attempts to use Evil Containment Wave to seal Piccolo into a small container, Piccolo surprises everyone by reflecting it and instead of capturing Kami. Piccolo then swallows the bottle, making chances of freeing Kami to seem very slim since what is apparently the only way to rescue Kami is to kill Piccolo and if that happens, Kami will also die.

Piccolo fighting Goku at the World Tournament

Piccolo Jr.’s next fight is the one he was waiting for, the match/rematch with Goku. Though Piccolo uses an assortment of new powerful techniques, Goku finds a way to make many of them work to his advantage. Goku manages to free Kami from captivity when Piccolo increases his size, tricking him into getting so large that Goku could go down his throat and get the bottle. However, even after Goku seemingly defeated Piccolo by using the Meteor Combination attack, firing his new Super Kamehameha technique at Piccolo, Piccolo manages to cripple Goku’s arms and legs after surprising him with a Mouth Energy Wave through his shoulder, saying he will not make the same mistake his father did (which was letting Goku have one working arm).

Goku defeats Piccolo

In the end, Piccolo loses narrowly, with Goku using flight on-screen for the first time and knocking Piccolo out of the ring with a headbutt. He is shown mercy when Goku gives him a Senzu Bean, which fully heals him instantly much to the shock and horror of his friends. Piccolo holds little gratitude for this act though and promises to continue his quest to destroy Goku and take over the world someday before leaving the tournament.

— Piccolo to young Gohan as he dies after jumping in front of Nappa’s blast to save Gohan’s life in “The Return of Goku”.

Piccolo as he appears in the first episode of Dragon Ball Z

After his defeat at the hands of Goku, Piccolo vowed to continue his quest to avenge his father and kill Goku, and flies off into the sky. Five years pass and Piccolo has since continued to train in order to reach his goal, but one day he has a brief confrontation with the Saiyan Raditz, who found Piccolo due to his scouter when he was trying to locate his brother Kakarot (Goku). In complete awe over the sudden arrival of this stranger, Piccolo demands to know Raditz’s origins and intentions. Raditz smirks at Piccolo’s demands, to which Piccolo retaliates with a Destructive Wave. Raditz shrugs off Piccolo’s most powerful technique without a single dent, with Piccolo trembling in fear. Before Raditz can murder Piccolo, his scouter locates another strong power level. This makes Raditz ultimately ignore Piccolo in favor of his true target (whose power reading he had initially mistaken Piccolo’s for due to their similar levels of progress), his younger brother Kakarot, who turned out to be Goku. Piccolo follows Raditz to Kame House, where Goku and his child Gohan went to meet up with old friends, Piccolo learns of Raditz’s plan to destroy humanity by hiding behind the house and listening in to the conversation with his strong hearing abilities. When Raditz easily subdues Goku and kidnaps Gohan, Piccolo offers to Goku a temporary truce in the face of this new threat, intending to resume his ongoing struggle with Goku afterward. Goku agrees, despite the pleas of his friends against the idea, and the two make their way to defeat Raditz.

Goku and Piccolo join forces to fight Raditz

Once Goku and Piccolo locate Raditz, Goku makes a feeble effort to rescue his son through discussion rather than action, but this fails, resulting in a battle. Raditz easily tackles both Piccolo and Goku, managing to sneak attack and surprise them every chance he gets, with Piccolo and Goku not even being able to land a single hit. When the battle takes to the air, Raditz fires two energy waves downwards at Goku and Piccolo. Goku luckily dodges, but Piccolo is less fortunate, with his left arm being lost by disintegration. With the battle seemingly hopeless, Piccolo asks Goku if he has developed any new techniques to assist in these kinds of battles. Goku answers he has not, with Piccolo scoffing at Goku’s lack of planning or preparation. Piccolo reveals he has developed a technique to pierce even the strongest of bodies, naming it the Special Beam Cannon. Piccolo demands for Goku to buy him extra time to charge the technique, but states the wait will be worth it. As Goku begins to get pummeled, Piccolo finishes charging the attack, but is now in even more woe, as he fears Raditz will be fast enough to evade. Piccolo’s prediction comes true, as he fires the blast, Raditz manages to side-step the attack, taking off only a small fragment of his Battle Armor.

Piccolo performs the Special Beam Cannon on Raditz

Raditz discovers his earlier assumptions on Goku and Piccolo’s power levels were wrong, as he now knows Goku and Piccolo both have the ability to raise their power levels over 1,000, something Raditz was unaware of at first. When all hopes seems lost, as Raditz starts to pummel Goku into submission by breaking his ribs, Goku’s young son Gohan intervenes after destroying the pod he was contained in and charges towards Raditz, damaging Raditz’s armor and hurting him greatly by smashing into his chest. Now due to Raditz being much weaker from the assault, Piccolo manages to mortally wound Raditz with the Special Beam Cannon, although Goku sacrifices his life in the process to restrain Raditz, and Piccolo thus avenges his father at a bit of an unexpected moment. Before dying, however, Raditz tricked Piccolo into telling him about the Dragon Balls, and reveals that two other, more powerful Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta, will be arriving on Earth in one year. In anger, Piccolo finishes Raditz off with one final blow rather than making him suffer, an action noticed by Kami who suspects that Piccolo is changing. When Goku dies shortly afterwards his body mysteriously vanishes, with Piccolo confirming Kami’s intervention.

Anyone killed by Piccolo before he turned good would be sent to limbo, with their spirit wandering in agony. Since Goku and Raditz did not suffer this fate after Piccolo killed them, Kami cited this as an indication that Piccolo was becoming less evil.

Piccolo throws Gohan at a rock

With the news of even more powerful opponents soon to arrive, Piccolo takes Gohan to Break Wasteland in order to train the boy and raise his survival skills, so Piccolo can use Gohan’s massive potential to help defend the Earth from the Saiyans, and originally, to help Piccolo take over the world afterwards. Though his treatment to Gohan is initially harsh, leaving him alone in the Wasteland for six months to raise his survival techniques, then brutally training the boy for the next six months, he begins to warm up to Gohan, and the two form an unbreakable bond. While the training occurred, Piccolo shows a little affection for Gohan in the first night of his six-month survival training by giving him three apples, as Gohan had not eaten anything in days. Piccolo does become annoyed when Gohan complains about the apples’ bitter taste, remarking Gohan will need to let go of his time with his parents who pampered and spoilt him. Suddenly, Gohan transforms into a Great Ape and proceeds to destroy the wasteland around him, much to Piccolo’s shock and slight fear. Piccolo (seemingly[13]) destroys the moon to turn Gohan back to normal, knowing the two invading Saiyans could use this technique to their advantage also. Piccolo then proceeds to remove Gohan’s tail, and makes him new training clothes and a sword.

Piccolo sparring with Gohan at Break Wasteland

When Vegeta and Nappa arrive on Earth, they are met by Gohan, Goku’s friends Krillin, Chiaotzu, Tien Shinhan, and Yamcha, and Piccolo. Goku had been wished back to life, but would take several hours to arrive. Piccolo soon learns from the Saiyans that he is a Namekian rather than a demon as he previously believed. The Saiyans then start the fight off by growing six Saibamen, small, humanoid plant-like aliens grown from the ground who all have power levels equal to Raditz’s 1200, which they instruct to fight in a mock tournament against the Earth’s defenders. The Saibamen are all destroyed, though Yamcha is killed in battle when one of them manages to grip him and self-destruct, killing them both. Piccolo destroys the last remaining Saibaman, after it attacks Gohan, with a punch in the stomach, followed by a mouth blast, disintegrating it.

Piccolo punches a Saibaman in the stomach

With the Saibamen gone, Nappa, the larger Saiyan, decides to enter combat. In the ensuing fight, Chiaotzu and Tien perish, and the defenders of the Earth are heavily beaten. When Chiaotzu prepares to self destruct while holding Nappa, Piccolo orders Gohan to watch Chiaotzu’s sacrifice, and then proceeds to compliment Chiaotzu by saying Chiaotzu has won his respect for his sacrifice to take down a powerful enemy. Despite Piccolo landing some decent hits, and planning team attacks with Krillin and Gohan, Nappa seems invincible. During one of the team attacks, when Gohan gives into his fear and runs away from Nappa instead of blasting him as Piccolo ordered, Piccolo deems Gohan a failure, and when the three hour break occurs, suggests Gohan should go home, and not be a distraction in this fight. Remembering that during his fight with Raditz, Goku pulled and squeezed his tail tightly and had caused him unbearable pain, Piccolo attempted the same feat and got a hold of Nappa’s tail (discussed with Krillin and Gohan after having a three-hour break) but the monstrous Saiyan revealed he and Vegeta were immune to that handicap and knocked the Namek unconscious for a short while. Later in the battle, when Nappa attempts to finish off Krillin with a final blast, Piccolo saves him just in time with a small hand blast launched at Nappa’s back.

Piccolo sacrifices himself to save Gohan from a fatal attack by Nappa

When the smaller but more powerful Saiyan named Vegeta detects that Goku is arriving, and that he is more powerful than anticipated (being read at 5,000 without powering up, already), he orders Nappa to quickly kill the remaining defenders, as their working with Goku might result in a challenge. Goku’s resurrection proves that the Dragon Balls are legitimate, so they can use the ones on Namek and do not need the ones located on Earth. Nappa first aims for Gohan with an extremely powerful attack, but Piccolo jumps in the way of it, sacrificing himself to save Gohan. His body ruined, Piccolo falls to the ground. With tears in his eyes, Piccolo bids farewell to Gohan, whom he admits made him soft and is the only person to ever call him friend. Piccolo’s death also results in Kami’s passing, as they were once a single being, and therefore if one dies then so would the other.

After the Saiyans are beaten by Goku and the remaining fighters, and Vegeta retreats, Gohan, Krillin and the brilliant inventor Bulma head to Namek and to locate the Dragon Balls so that they can wish Kami, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu back to life and restore the Dragon Balls of Earth.

— Piccolo on Frieza.

Piccolo was allowed to train with King Kai after his death

As Goku was forced to do after his noble death, Piccolo travels down the winding Snake Way to King Kai’s Planet. There, he, Chiaotzu, Tien, and Yamcha all train under the watchful eye of King Kai. While it is unknown if he ever learned any of King Kai’s secret techniques, Piccolo’s power does increase so significantly that even Nail (a Warrior-type Namekian with a power level of 42,000) notes it as unbelievable.

On Namek, Gohan, Krillin, and Dende, a young Namekian who Krillin and Gohan had previously saved, gather the Namekian Dragon Balls and summon the Namekian Dragon, Porunga. Piccolo contacts Gohan (via King Kai’s telepathy) and demands he be resurrected with the first wish, be sent to Namek to battle Frieza with the second, and then Gohan could do whatever with the last wish. Piccolo’s reasoning was that if he is brought back, then the Earth Dragon Balls will immediately return alongside Kami, allowing for wishes to be made to bring back Tien, Chiaotzu and Yamcha.

Piccolo arrives to confront Frieza

Piccolo soon arrives on Namek at a random point, since Gohan did not specify where on Namek he should be sent to when he asked Dende to have Porunga grant the wishes. After recovering from the initial shock of seeing his strangely familiar homeland for the first time and feeling the suffering of his people, Piccolo heads in the direction of a large energy source, believing it to be Frieza.

During his flight, he passes over a dying Namekian, Nail, who was earlier easily mauled by Frieza. Piccolo drops down to inspect the crippled Namekian and they begin to converse. Nail offers Piccolo to join with him, as the option of merging with his counterpart Kami could not be realized here (nor did Piccolo even want to be one with him, at this point). At first, Piccolo refuses, but Nail explains that Piccolo will not lose his personality, he will only feel the power gained from the fusion. Piccolo reluctantly accepts, and after the fusion is complete he is amazed by his awesome new power and rushes to Frieza’s location.

Piccolo (fused with Nail) takes on Frieza in his second form

When Piccolo arrives, he finds a battle in progress between Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta (who had rebelled against Frieza), with Dende supporting them, against Frieza. He then takes on Frieza, with the doubt of Krillin and Vegeta, who is in his second form, alone and is able to go blow to blow with him, even without removing his weighted clothing. Vegeta became shocked to find that the Namekian that Nappa killed with ease mere months ago had become so powerful. After a brief exchange of blows, Frieza transforms into his third form and assaults Piccolo with a large barrage of invisible and virtually unavoidable shots, crippling the Namekian.

An angry Gohan intervenes and blasts Frieza with a Full Power Masenko, but Frieza knocks it back, and Piccolo uses the last of his strength to deflect the projectile with one of his own before it can hit the young Saiyan. Frieza then begins his final transformation into his true form, and Gohan uses the opportunity to take Piccolo to Dende, who has the ability to heal others completely. Piccolo quickly recovers, but he knows that he is even more thoroughly outclassed by Frieza’s new form. Frieza begins his renewed attack with a single blast that kills Dende (having seen him healing Piccolo midway into his transformation), preventing the warriors from being healed again; Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo respond with a joint assault but Frieza seemingly effortlessly evades all of their attacks.

Piccolo before Frieza decides to transform

Piccolo is then reduced to the sidelines, watching as a strengthened Vegeta attacks and falls against Frieza, helpless to intervene. After Goku arrives, Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo get out of his way, and after witnessing Vegeta’s murder at the hand’s of Frieza, he watches Goku and Frieza duel from afar. (He also implies that he would like to fight Goku when it’s over, though only for kicks.) Goku is soon overwhelmed by Frieza once he powers up to 50% of his power, nullifying even Goku’s Kamehameha fired with a 20-fold Kaio-ken boosting his power, and, in desperation, attempts to use the Spirit Bomb. In order to buy Goku some time, Piccolo takes most of the remaining ki from Gohan and Krillin and jumps in to help, catching Frieza off-guard and kicking him in the head, giving Goku just enough time to finish the Spirit Bomb and launch it towards Frieza, seemingly killing him. Piccolo drags Goku’s body out of the water, and meets up with Gohan and Krillin, celebrating.

Piccolo wounded after being beaten by Frieza

Just as our heroes rejoice, Frieza towers above them revealing to still be alive, and shoots a powerful beam meant for Goku (in the anime only, for in the manga he intended to finish Piccolo and the others first all along, and as such aimed at him immediately), but Piccolo bravely takes the hit for his former rival and falls to the ground on the verge of death. After witnessing both Piccolo being heavily wounded, and Krillin being blown to pieces by Frieza, Goku finally had enough and unleashed his hidden Super Saiyan powers. Gohan carried Piccolo off of the battlefield as Goku and Frieza clashed on the dying Planet Namek, with the former emerging as the victor. Piccolo is healed by Dende (who had been wished back to life along with the rest of the people killed by Frieza and his men) after being sent to Earth by a wish made to Porunga.

When the Namekians find a planet suitable to be New Namek, Piccolo declines to travel with them, and he stays on Earth with Gohan to protect and watch over the boy. Piccolo does not desire the peaceful, therefore dull, life to be had on Namek and instead wishes to keep training in order to become more powerful.

Frieza-Androids Interlude

Piccolo arrives

Only in the anime, Piccolo assists Gohan and Krillin in defeating Garlic Jr., a villain first encountered in the film: Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, who had escaped the Dead Zone and returned with an incredible power up from the Makyo Star being near to the Earth.

Piccolo had to cope with Kami, his counterpart, sometimes getting hurt or tired, which in turn affected Piccolo during his battles. He also faked being under the influence of the Black Water Mist in order to get close enough to Garlic Jr. to free both Kami and Mr. Popo, and in order to keep up the act, he had to act like he wanted to kill Gohan. Later, Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin manage to get Garlic Jr. sealed back into the Dead Zone for good.

One year after the events on Namek, Piccolo sensed Frieza and another powerful being heading towards Earth. He headed to the area where he detected they would land, and was soon joined by Vegeta, Yamcha, Puar, Bulma, Tien, Chiaotzu, Krillin and Gohan. Despair sets in on the group as they realize that there’s little they can do to oppose such powerful foes.

Piccolo, prior to Frieza and King Cold’s arrival

Soon after Frieza and his father, King Cold, land they are confronted by a mysterious youth, who reveals himself to be a Super Saiyan and almost effortlessly destroys the father-son duo along with their minions. Piccolo and the others follow the youth, who tells them when and where Goku will be arriving. Just as the boy predicted, Goku lands and the boy converses with him privately, though Piccolo’s superior hearing allows him to listen in. The boy, known as Future Trunks, is the future son of Vegeta and Bulma and reveals a terrible plot by Dr. Gero, a scientist for the non-active Red Ribbon Army, to create powerful Androids for the sole purpose of annihilating Goku.

The Androids soon spiral out of control, and after murdering their creator go on to destroy everything around them, making Future Trunks’ world a nightmare where they kill all but a few tens of thousands[citation needed] of the population. They eventually kill all the Z Fighters with the exception of Goku, who dies from a heart disease six months prior to the attack of the Androids. Future Trunks has come back in time to both give Goku the medicine to cure the disease and give the Z Fighters ample warning. Future Trunks then departs back to his own timeline and Piccolo, since Goku does not know how to tell the group what he had discovered, explains everything to the group, except the identity of Future Trunks. The group then splits up to begin training for the oncoming threat, with Piccolo deciding to do his training alongside Goku and Gohan, which would later prove to have been a very wise decision.

Piccolo with Cynthia

While training with Goku and Gohan, Piccolo also was forced along with Goku to take a drivers test so Chi-Chi would not have to do as much chores as a result of their training. Piccolo had to wear human clothes, presumably to disguise his origins. He attempted to drive relatively safely, but his driving instructor, Cynthia, proved to be a terrible influence, as she encouraged Piccolo to drive recklessly while Goku was driving recklessly against his instructor’s wishes. Eventually, they took a second attempt at a drivers test under a storm, only for them to fail the test a second time to save a bus full of children.

Androids Saga

Piccolo and the others waiting for the Androids to appear

Three years have passed by, and Goku, Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, and Yamcha meet at the designated time to confront the Androids with Vegeta and Future Trunks coming. Yajirobe drops by briefly to give the group Senzu Beans and, as he was leaving, his hovercar had been destroyed. Still not sensing their opponents, Gohan realized that, being Androids, they have no ki to detect and therefore must be searched for by sight. Piccolo and the others enter the city to search, but do not know what the Androids look like. They soon detect a large drop in Yamcha’s ki and rush to the scene, finding both the two Androids and a critically wounded Yamcha with a hole through his gut. Goku soon leads the Androids to a different location so that the city is not destroyed in their fight, though the Androids demolish a large portion of it before they leave.

The Androids choose to fight in a desolate region filled with rocky hills. Piccolo surmises that they chose the location so that they could escape to the hills if the fight does not go their way. After the Androids explain that they have been watching Goku since he defeated the Red Ribbon Army up until his battle with Vegeta, Goku attacks Android 19. The Androids did not know of his ability to go Super Saiyan, and therefore his true strength. Piccolo is startled after Goku transforms because his power is much lower than it should be. Though Goku seems to be winning in the early part of the fight, he quickly loses his energy due to his heart disease and is eventually taken down by Android 19.

Piccolo hit by Android 20’s eye laser

Piccolo and the others attempt to intervene, but Android 20 blocks their path and blasts Piccolo with his eye beams, sending him crashing to the ground. Vegeta then arrives, kicking Android 19 off of Goku and Piccolo quickly gets back up, revealing that he was pretending to be injured in order to catch the Androids off guard. Vegeta then kicks Goku out of the battle and Piccolo catches him, setting him down so Yamcha can take him home and give him the heart medicine that Future Trunks gave them. Vegeta and Android 19 then battle, with Vegeta revealing his ability to go Super Saiyan, and destroying 19 after confirming his ability to drain energy using the jewels embedded in his palms. Vegeta, severely drained from the fight with Android 19, acts as if he eager for a quick follow-up fight with Android 20. Nervous of Vegeta’s new power, Android 20 fails to call the bluff and flees to the hills, while Vegeta is restored with a Senzu Bean.

Piccolo battles Android 20, severing the android’s right arm

Piccolo and the others start searching the hills for Android 20, but Piccolo is soon ambushed. With Android 20 holding a tight grip over his mouth and draining his energy, Piccolo sends out a telepathic message to Gohan. Gohan is alerted to the situation and heads for Piccolo Jr.’s now shrinking ki. He finds Piccolo and smashes Android 20 off of his mentor. Piccolo receives a Senzu Bean from Krillin and states that he will fight Android 20 himself. Android 20 is taken off guard by Piccolo’s speed, and he quickly hits the android with several powerful blows, which surprises the Android because he did not expect for Piccolo to be this powerful. The Namekian finishes the battle with a powerful chop which takes off Android 20’s right arm, while also referring to how he was formerly like Dr. Gero and consumed with the desire of revenge against Goku for his involvement in destroying a paternal figure of his, then sends him smashing him into the ground, badly beaten.

Krillin was astonished by Piccolo’s power, believing Piccolo was extremely powerful for someone who is not a Super Saiyan. At this time Future Trunks shows up and states that Android 20 is not one of the Androids which caused such devastation in the future, having already seen the lifeless head that 19 was reduced into by Vegeta earlier. Bulma follows them closely in her skycar, and Android 20 sees his opportunity to escape and lets out an energy wave, destroying Bulma’s vehicle and distracting everyone while he runs away, stating that he’s going to activate Android 17 and 18.

Piccolo and Future Trunks

Bulma informs the group that Android 20 is actually Dr. Gero, who reconstructed himself into an Android, and of the location of his lab in North City. Piccolo then tells Bulma about Future Trunks, who at this point is already born in the main timeline. He then takes off with Krillin and Tien to North City to find Dr. Gero’s Lab and destroy the Androids before they can be awakened. Krillin finds the lab and alerts the others, but they arrive too late and the Androids are activated. The twin Androids then display mutiny on their creator by killing him, and against Gero’s wishes awakening another Android: Android 16. Vegeta takes off after them and Piccolo and the others follow. When they catch up, they find that Vegeta has been fighting Android 18 and is not doing so well against the female Android due to his declining stamina. Android 17 warns them that if they get involved in the fight, he will step in as well.

Piccolo is humiliated along with the other Z Fighters by the Androids

They watch the fight and though Vegeta seems to be on roughly equal footing at first glance (something that surprises Future Trunks because he never knew his father to be so powerful) Piccolo points out that Vegeta was tiring with every move and the Android was not. When Future Trunks gets involved with the fight after Vegeta receives a serious kick that breaks his arm, Piccolo also charges in, but both are quickly swatted down by Android 17. When Piccolo gets back up, he charges at Android 17 who is choking Tien; when he reaches Android 17, he is felled with a single blow to the stomach that nearly tears through him.

The Piccolo that you know is gone! I am The Namek. And as for you, well, you’re history.

— Piccolo after powering up against Imperfect Cell

Piccolo after fusing with Kami

Krillin gives each of the warriors a Senzu Bean, and Piccolo states he has an idea (in the Japanese version and Dragon Ball Z Kai, Krillin asks if Piccolo has any plans for defeating the Androids, to which Piccolo barks angrily and lies that he was never their friend and is still plotting to overtake the world). When Krillin asks what it is, Piccolo angrily snaps at him and then abruptly takes off to The Lookout. Piccolo does not need to explain to Kami why he has come, Kami having already read his thoughts that Piccolo wishes to fuse with him and become whole once again. Piccolo rebuffs Kami, stating that they are not fusing on an equal level and will simply be using the old Namekian as a tool to become more powerful, stating that the only reason that Kami even exists now in face of all the converging foes is for the Dragon Balls. Regardless, Kami is not opposed to the idea of fusing with Piccolo, but he wants to observe the situation for a while longer to be sure that his last decision is made for valid reasons.

Piccolo (now the “Nameless Namekian”) challenges Imperfect Cell

Piccolo starts to argue with him, but Kami counters by pointing out that even Future Trunks stated these Androids are different (being “much, much” more powerful, for one, and for having spared their lives, whereas the future counterparts killed them outright), and that it was Vegeta who started the fight they just had. Piccolo calls Kami a coward for his reluctance and waits on the lookout for him to make up his mind. When Kami learns of the recent arrival of a danger from the future far greater than the Androids, he realizes he has no choice. With Piccolo serving as the base form, they merge into one being, becoming the nameless Namekian once again, himself stating that he was now no longer Kami or Piccolo.

Cell Saga

Main articles: Imperfect Cell Saga, Perfect Cell Saga, and Cell Games Saga Piccolo rushes to Ginger Town, the location of this murderous new enemy. The bug-like creature claims that he is Piccolo’s “brother”, which shocks Piccolo, and the two engage in battle. Piccolo seems to have the upper hand, but is taken off guard when the creature launches a Kamehameha at Piccolo, which shocked him, as the move was Goku’s attack. As he was dodging the blast the creature latches onto Piccolo’s back and stings his left arm, draining the life from it and rendering the limb useless and withered. Piccolo headbutts the creature and breaks free, but claims that with his injury he has been defeated, luring the creature into explaining his actions. The creature reveals his name as Cell, and that he is a combination of Earth’s greatest warriors put together by Dr. Gero.

Piccolo before his battle with Android 17

His purpose is to locate Android 17 and Android 18 and take their energy by absorbing them into his being so that he may achieve his Perfect form. Now knowing the creature’s origin and intentions, Piccolo exposes his ruse, tearing the withered left arm free and growing a healthy one in its place, now prepared to resume battle with Imperfect Cell.

Future Trunks and Krillin soon arrive, and Imperfect Cell, now outnumbered, uses the Solar Flare (inherited from either Goku or the technique’s coiner Tien) and escapes. Tien and Vegeta soon arrive and Piccolo explains the nature of Cell to them. He and Tien then search for Cell as the monster travels from town to town absorbing people’s energy, but Imperfect Cell detects their ki and then lowers his own and hides every time they get close. Piccolo begins traveling on a jet plane, piloted by Yamcha, with Gohan, Krillin, and Tien so that they can keep their ki hidden while searching for the creature.

While searching, a recovered Goku teleports onto the plane and explains that he has a plan for himself, Future Trunks, Gohan, and Vegeta to use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in order to train for a year in span of one Earth day. He then takes Gohan and teleports back to Kami’s lookout. Piccolo and the rest keep searching but Piccolo begins to despair, knowing that with each town Imperfect Cell attacks, his strength grows and the monster will soon be powerful enough to confront and absorb the Androids.

Piccolo during his battle with Android 17

Piccolo and the rest soon return to Kame House. By good or bad luck, the Androids soon arrive, demanding the location of Goku so that they may kill him to finish their game. Piccolo decides to use this opportunity to try and destroy them, thereby preventing them from being absorbed by Imperfect Cell. They head to deserted Tropical Islands and Piccolo learns that he will only have to fight Android 17, giving him a chance at victory. He and #17 are roughly equal in strength, and though Piccolo does not have the infinite energy of his opponent, he does have several tricks up his sleeve that prove an outstanding resistance, such as his amazing regeneration abilities and his variety of energy attacks, such as the Hellzone Grenade. However, Cell arrives in the middle of their fight.

With his increase in strength from absorbing countless humans from various cities, Imperfect Cell is now considerably more powerful than Piccolo, and on top of that Piccolo has expended a considerably large amount of his energy battling Android 17. After 17 is attacked by Cell, Piccolo steps in to help, but is easily swatted aside. Without any other options, Piccolo uses his desperation attack, the Light Grenade, and destroys the island that they were fighting on. However, Imperfect Cell bears no damage from the attack due to his superior strength, and sets his eyes on the weary Namekian.

Piccolo recovering after a vicious attack from Imperfect Cell

Realizing that the both of them can do nothing to defeat Cell, Piccolo warns #17 to run; however, he is interrupted by Cell, with one swift punch, which snaps the brave Namek’s neck and takes him down. Seeing no need to absorb him, Cell picks Piccolo up from the ground, blasts a hole clean through his stomach and tosses him into the ocean, leaving him for dead. Luckily, Piccolo barely managed to survive thanks to his regeneration and is soon rescued by Goku and taken back to Kami’s Lookout, along with Tien who had distracted Cell to stop him from absorbing Android 18.

Piccolo quickly recovers, but with Imperfect Cell having absorbed Android 17 and now in his even more powerful Semi-Perfect form, he can do nothing but watch. He observed as Super Vegeta first defeated Semi-Perfect Cell and then allowed him to absorb Android 18 and attain his Perfect form. He also witnessed Perfect Cell’s subsequent victory over Future Trunks and his announcement of the Cell Games, giving the Earth’s defenders ten days to prepare for his tournament.

Damn you! Don’t you see what you’ve done? Why couldn’t you just listen to us for once Goku? We all warned you this would happen! You’ve pushed your son to his death! His death!

— Piccolo toward Goku, after Cell violently blasted Gohan into a mountain of rock in “Get Angry, Gohan! Release Your Hidden Power!”

Piccolo seeing an image of Perfect Cell in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber

When Goku and Gohan emerge from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Gohan requests for Piccolo to give him a copy of his uniform, which Piccolo happily conjures up for him. He is also startled by how much more powerful Goku became with his mastery over the Super Saiyan form. Piccolo enters the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and, although becoming significantly stronger, is still nowhere near powerful enough to challenge Perfect Cell. After he emerges, Goku asks him if it is possible for him to split with Kami again. Piccolo states that he can not, so Goku instead goes to New Namek to recruit a new guardian, and returns with Dende who takes the position and promptly reactivates the Dragon Balls.

Gohan and Piccolo at the Cell Games

When the ten day wait is over, Piccolo accompanies Goku and the others to the Cell Games. He stays on the sidelines for most of the battle but speaks up when Goku, after first battling then yielding to Perfect Cell, volunteers Gohan to fight. Piccolo states that no matter how strong Gohan had become, there is no way he can fight Perfect Cell. He criticizes even further when Goku tosses a Senzu Bean to Perfect Cell so that the fight is “fair”. When Perfect Cell manages to grab Gohan in a bear hug and begins crushing him, Piccolo blames Goku for his actions, and prepares to enter the battle, even though it likely means his death. Perfect Cell soon stops his attack though, deciding to target Gohan’s friends instead. He soon spawns seven Cell Juniors, one for each Z Fighter watching the fight. Piccolo does well against the Cell Jrs, managing to stand his ground despite Cell’s comment that only Vegeta and Trunks were able to fight back, while the weary Goku and the powerless humans are gradually beaten to the ground, but is soon overwhelmed until Gohan finally snaps and transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, and defeats all of the Cell Jrs with ease, leaving all of the Z warriors to look on in shock. In the anime filler Piccolo is actually shown to be the Z fighter who does a better job at beating the Cell Jrs, being able to assist Krillin, Yamcha and Tien for a while, however such filler goes against what happened in the manga.

Piccolo takes on one of the seven Cell Jrs.

Gohan battled Cell and was able to not only outmatch Cell, but also cause him to spit up Android 18 and revert to his Semi-Perfect form. Piccolo then witnessed Goku’s noble sacrifice as he teleported himself and a self-destructing Cell (who tried to blow himself up along with the Earth) to King Kai’s Planet, which was destroyed along with everybody who was present at the time (Goku, King Kai, Bubbles, and, in the anime, Gregory). But, Cell survived and became even stronger thanks to his Saiyan genes. He teleported back to Earth (he learned how to use the Instant Transmission technique), and after killing Future Trunks, ensued in a Kamehameha duel with Gohan, who Cell had already weakened when Gohan attempted to save Vegeta from Cell’s Death Beam. Piccolo, along with the other Z Fighters, assisted Gohan in the duel by blasting Cell with various ki blasts, as Piccolo was unwilling to let the person who taught him the value of friendship die all alone against Cell (in the manga, rather than helping Gohan, Piccolo merely curses at his inability to make any difference in the situation, making it more of a surprise when Vegeta finally intervenes). The efforts of the Z Fighters failed to faze Cell until Vegeta distracted him with an energy blast, which gave Gohan the time he needed to destroy Cell once and for all. Piccolo then lauded Vegeta on hitting Cell in an honorable move, but the latter just tells Piccolo to get lost. Piccolo returned to the lookout, where he, upon being asked whether Gohan could come and see him again there, tells him he would bet on it.

Piccolo before the 25th World Tournament

When Piccolo is informed by a now teenaged Gohan that Goku is coming back to Earth for one day and that they are entering the World Martial Arts Tournament along with Android 18 (who has reformed and married Krillin), Krillin, and Vegeta, he decides to enter himself as well, under the alias of “Ma Junior” (as he had previously done when participating in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament during the Piccolo Jr. Saga of Dragon Ball). While there, Piccolo encounters a small purple alien who disturbs him deeply. When it’s Piccolo’s turn to fight, he faces the alien as his first opponent and finds that he is extremely reluctant to attack him, causing him to question just who this being is. The alien responds directly to Piccolo’s thoughts, telling him that he’ll find out soon enough and that for now they should just enjoy the fight. Piccolo quickly surrenders the match without raising a fist.

Piccolo with Vegeta at the 25th World Tournament

When they meet in spectators area, Piccolo asks the alien if he is Grand Kai, the ruler of the Kai’s, a set of four gods who each watch over quadrant of the galaxy, the alien’s companion responds that he is actually the Supreme Kai, a much higher being who is above Grand Kai. Having much of Kami’s essence, Piccolo is awed by Shin’s presence and extremely respectful of his place on the divine hierarchy. During a later fight between Gohan and Kibito, Gohan’s energy is drained by two very oddly powerful humans after he is paralyzed by Shin, who intended to pursue the two to see where they would take the stolen energy. Shin then sets off to follow them, stating that any help would be appreciated. Piccolo immediately joins him, followed soon by Goku, Krillin, and Vegeta.

Piccolo is turned to stone by Dabura’s spit attack

As they travel, Shin informs them all that the two humans are possessed pawns of a wizard named Babidi and they are collecting energy to revive a powerful force of destruction known as Majin Buu. Piccolo and the others are joined by a fully recovered Gohan and Kibito, and then hide on a mountain top near Babidi’s ship and watch as he destroys the two human pawns as “their job was done”. The Z Fighters are then attacked by the Demon King Dabura, whom Babidi has possessed as his strongest henchman, with a power roughly equal to Perfect Cell. Dabura quickly kills Kibito and spits on Krillin and Piccolo, turning them both into stone statues.

Why you little! I fought with both of your fathers in combat, since before you were born. You two don’t have a clue! Even the smallest bit of power can mean the difference between winning and losing!

— Piccolo angrily responds to Trunks stating he and Goten can easily kill Majin Buu

After an awakened Majin Buu killed Dabura by turning him into a cookie and eating him, Piccolo returns to normal along with Krillin, but Piccolo was in pieces due to have been accidentally shattered by Trunks while he was turned into stone. Fortunately, his head was not damaged, so he was able to completely regenerate. On returning to normal, the first thing Piccolo senses is the awesome power of Majin Buu and in the field in front of them, he sees a badly beaten Shin about to be turned into a snack for the monster. He is torn about what to do, as his instinct is to aid Shin, but he knows that he can do nothing against Majin Buu.

Piccolo confronts the evil wizard Babidi

Piccolo’s attempted murder of Babidi

Before Majin Buu can finish Shin off, he was attacked by Vegeta, who was currently under Babidi’s influence (but able to completely resist his control), and states that he will destroy Majin Buu in vengeance for the monster’s (supposed) killing of Gohan, shocking Piccolo with the news. Piccolo watches their fight and barely escapes along with Goten, Trunks, and Krillin after Majin Buu unleashes his Angry Explosion technique. When Majin Buu resumes the attack on a badly wounded Vegeta, Piccolo is unable to prevent Goten and Trunks from rushing into the battle themselves. The pair manages to temporarily halt Majin Buu, smashing him through some mountains while his guard was down, and then attempts to aid Vegeta. In the meantime, Piccolo confronts Babidi. Piccolo resists the wizard’s Demon Eye and breaks his Wizard Barrier. When Babidi attempts to plead for his life, claiming that only he can prevent Majin Buu from becoming out of control, Piccolo states that it does not matter as they will not allow Buu to live even if he is not alive and chops the wizard in half, fatally injuring him and then spitting as a sign of spite.

Piccolo speaks with Majin Vegeta

Piccolo watches as Vegeta knocks the two kids unconscious. When he descends to Vegeta, Vegeta asks Piccolo to take the children far from the battle site. Piccolo realizes that Vegeta plans on sacrificing himself. Vegeta confirms this by asking if he will see Kakarot (Goku’s original Saiyan name) in the afterlife and Piccolo states he will not, because Vegeta has committed too many evil actions before joining the Z Fighters to be on the same plane as Goku and he will instead be reincarnated, after his spirit is purified. Piccolo, carrying the children, then retreats with Krillin until they witness an enormous explosion that Vegeta fueled despite all this, in an attempt to protect Bulma and Trunks, and “even Kakarot”. After the blast had died down, Piccolo hands the kids to Krillin and tells him to tell everyone else what has happened and then goes back to the battle site to see what has transpired.

Piccolo on The Lookout

When he reaches the site, now a large crater, he pays his respects to Vegeta. He recalls about the time he had sacrificed himself to save Gohan’s life many years ago, and bids farewell to the Saiyan Prince. He also finds a still barely alive Babidi, who survived due to his ability to conjure barriers. As he moves in to finish him off, Piccolo notices the pieces of Majin Buu moving. They quickly shape themselves into full miniature versions of Majin Buu and begin colliding into each other, reforming the original Majin Buu. He makes a fast retreat, catching up with Krillin and informing him that they have to go to Kami’s Lookout in the slight chance that it might offer sanctuary.

Goku (who was rendered unconscious by Vegeta after a fight they had) soon arrives after them and they trade stories, informing Piccolo of Vegeta’s willingness to become Babidi’s pawn in order to gain power and their subsequent battle. Piccolo says that Shin was right to fear Buu, and now the whole universe is in danger. Goku says he wanted to use the Fusion Dance that he learned from some Metamorans in the Other World. Piccolo realizes Goku could have fused with Gohan or Vegeta if they were alive and defeated Majin Buu.

Mr. Popo suggests that Goten and Trunks can fuse, since they have near-equal power and size. Goku thinks that’s a great idea, and says he’ll teach them Fusion until he has to leave, and then Piccolo can train them afterwards. Piccolo agrees, and Krillin gets excited at this faint glimmer of hope. However, Piccolo thinks that it will take a long time for the boys to master Fusion, and many innocent lives will be lost to Majin Buu in the meantime. After Goku teleports all of his friends and family to the Lookout, Babidi contacts all inhabitants of Earth telepathically, stating that he wants the location of Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo.

Piccolo sees Babidi and Buu

He then introduces himself and Majin Buu, before having Buu show the people his strength. Babidi shows everyone an image of Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten again, and anyone who knows where they are had better speak up, if they don’t want to be turned into candy and eaten. He tells everyone they have five days and then ends the transmission. Piccolo is livid at this turn of events, and wants to go to Babidi and prevent the loss of more lives. Goku tells Piccolo not to talk stupid, because he needs him to teach the boys Fusion when he goes back to Other World. That’s the only way to defeat Buu, and they can restore the people and the planet with the Dragon Balls. Piccolo agrees, and calms down.

Piccolo during the boys training

When the boys wake up, Goku and Piccolo tell them about Vegeta and Gohan’s apparent deaths at Majin Buu’s hand and that they need to learn Fusion so they can avenge them. Goku also says they have to hurry, in case Babidi finds The Lookout, so Piccolo suggests they use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Goku says that someone can only use that room for at most two days in their life, and they may need it sometime in the future. As Goku begins teaching them the fundamentals of Fusion. Observing the training, Piccolo shows disbelief at how strong the two boys have become.

All of a sudden, Babidi transmits another message into the minds of all the people of Earth. Still seeking revenge against Goten, Trunks and Piccolo for assisting Vegeta during his battle with Majin Buu, Babidi informs everyone that has learned the location of one of his targets: The Capsule Corporation in West City. In need of the Dragon Radar located there, Goku quickly changes plans, and orders Trunks to fly home and retrieve the radar before Babidi reaches the city. Goku informs him that he’ll fend off Buu and Babidi, so they do not reach the city in time. Trunks zips from the Lookout and heads straight toward West City and his home. Meanwhile, Goku uses his Instant Transmission technique to confront Buu. During the battle, Goku displays his new Super Saiyan 3 transformation, leaving the Dragon Team shocked.

Piccolo on The Lookout

After Trunks retrieves the Dragon Radar, Goku returns to The Lookout. Goku informs Piccolo that Buu killed Babidi, as he cannot sense the evil wizard’s energy anymore. Goku says that Babidi got what he deserved and he knew would Buu kill him eventually. Piccolo believes that Buu will become peaceful without Babidi giving him orders, but Goku says that is just wishful thinking. Just as Goku predicted, Majin Buu goes on a rampage and targets the remaining Earthlings on the planet. Piccolo curses himself for thinking that Majin Buu would do nothing. Goku says that Buu enjoys destruction and killing at a whim. Piccolo comments that if Buu wanted to, he could easily destroy the planet and kill everyone in no time. Goku thinks it is unlikely as Buu was excited when he told him someone stronger would come in two days and concludes that the Earth will be safe until then, though he feels sorry for the people of Earth. Piccolo says that Goten and Trunks will have to master Fusion within the next two days. Goku says that he probably has only an hour left of his remaining time on Earth to the boys. When Piccolo asks how this is possible, Goku reveals that the Super Saiyan 3 form used up most of his energy and that it is something that should only be used in Other World as it uses way too much energy and exhausts the user completely in a place where time flows like Earth. Piccolo suggests having Dende restore his energy, but Goku refuses as there is another reason he wants to go back to Other World (presumably to find out if Gohan is really dead). Suddenly, Fortuneteller Baba appears and says Goku has only 30 minutes left and that he should getting ready to return.

While they wait for Trunks to return, Piccolo asks Goku if he could have defeated Majin Buu as a Super Saiyan 3, and Goku reveals he is unsure as Majin Buu’s strength is incredible and he thinks its very likely he would have lost against Buu. Piccolo asks if he didn’t go all out, was because of Super Saiyan 3’s rapid energy consumption. Goku says no and points out that as he is no longer a part of this world, it would be best to step back and leave the fight to next generation as you never know when an even stronger opponent will appear. Goku also admits their taking a risk, but after seeing Goten and Trunks’ potential, he thinks it is worth a try. Piccolo says that he is putting the fate of the planet in the hands of children, but Goku counters that it wouldn’t be the first time, referencing Gohan. Piccolo tells Goku to give Gohan his regards when he sees him in Other World, causing Goku to say he thinks the worst thing about Gohan being dead is that he isn’t able to see Piccolo anymore. Finally, Trunks returns to The Lookout with the Dragon Radar. With little time remaining, Goku and Piccolo begin teaching Goten and Trunks the Fusion Dance. Goku is surprised to find Goten and Trunks are more obedient and respectful than before, causing Piccolo to comment that it seems Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 transformation had been helpful with motivating them into cooperating as well.

Goku and Piccolo teaching Goten and Trunks the fusion technique

Continuing their training of the boys, Piccolo asks Goku if he’s alright, because he seems tired. Goku insists he’s okay, while Piccolo contemplates how much energy Super Saiyan 3 uses in the living world. Goku demonstrates the moves for the Fusion dance and everyone is speechless. Goku says they’ll have to both do it with “left and right symmetry”, but the boys don’t know what that means. So, Goku wants Piccolo to try it with him to show the boys, but Piccolo is quite reluctant. Nevertheless, Goku and Piccolo mirror each other’s movements, ending up with their fingers touching. Goku tells the boys to do the dance now. Piccolo says that even if Vegeta were alive, he would never have done this, and Goku isn’t sure why.

As Goten and Trunks attempt to fuse, Goku strictly tells the boys to correct their movements. Unfortunately, Fortuneteller Baba arrives, saying that it’s time for Goku to go back to Other World now (In the anime, Goku uses up his remaining time by demonstrating Super Saiyan 3 to the boys). Goku tells Piccolo it’s all up to him now, and the boys need to have Fusion mastered by tomorrow and Piccolo agrees. Everyone gathers around and says their goodbyes.

With Goku having returned to the afterlife, Piccolo takes over their instruction fully, correcting them on the mistakes they make when their Fusions fail the first two times. When the Fusion works properly, he finds an entirely new challenge in trying to install some discipline and control in the extremely powerful, and equally arrogant, Gotenks. The first time they fuse properly, Gotenks goes after Majin Buu in his base form and returns to the lookout, badly bruised and battered but still alive. Piccolo scolds the young fused warrior for disobeying. After Goten and Trunks fuse while in the Super Saiyan state, Gotenks rushes off to battle again, this time with Piccolo following him.

Gotenks wastes a large amount of time demonstrating his speed by flying around the world dozens of times and even taking a nap whilst waiting for Piccolo to catch up, only seeking Majin Buu when there’s one minute left in the thirty minute Fusion time limit. This causes him to separate before he can even face Buu, leaving his individual fusees to hastily escape before Buu can kill them.

While waiting the hour needed for them to recover and fuse again, Piccolo observes the changes in Majin Buu, brought about by his friendship with Mr. Satan, a human who fraudulently took credit for defeating Cell and therefore became regarded as the world’s greatest hero.

Never train children when their mothers are around. It’s always trouble.

— “Buu Against Buu”

Piccolo and Dende sensing Super Buu’s first appearance

Soon after, he witnessed the split of Mr. Buu into two separate Buu’s, the battle between them, and the absorption of Mr. Buu by Evil Buu, resulting in the even more powerful Super Buu. Piccolo and Dende both immediately notice the sharp increase in power, and become even more worried. Super Buu is able to detect ki and quickly arrives at Kami’s Lookout, looking for the stronger person who Goku said would fight with him. Piccolo tries to stall Buu by saying that the fighter is sleeping and pleads for more time, to which Super Buu angrily refuses.

Super Buu then sends out innumerable blasts, one for each person remaining on Earth, killing all but Mr. Satan, and the few who could avoid the beams, such as Tien and Chiaotzu. When Super Buu demands to fight again, Piccolo asks that they have one hour to wake the warrior up and get him prepared, adding that Mr. Satan’s child (Videl, who was brought to the lookout) also wants him to wait. Super Buu reluctantly agrees due to the little of the good Majin Buu that he had in him, but vows to kill everyone straight afterwards.

Piccolo wastes no time and quickly ushers Goten and Kid Trunks into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber where they can train for fifteen Hyperbolic days in the hour that Super Buu has allowed them. While waiting, he explains to Videl how Super Buu knows about her father and his achievement of taming Mr. Buu. After a bit less than thirty minutes, Super Buu loses patience and demands to fight their warrior immediately. Piccolo relents and starts leading Super Buu to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, taking the long way to maximize the time it will take, but Buu quickly becomes aware of the ruse and demands for him to take him there immediately.

He contacts Goten and Kid Trunks telepathically, telling them that he will be at the room with Super Buu in one minute, giving them six hours to rest up for the fight. Piccolo also has a secret plan that, if Gotenks is not capable of stopping Super Buu, he will destroy the entrance to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, locking Super Buu and themselves inside for all of eternity.

Once Super Buu is in the room, Piccolo watches as Gotenks attacks him in base form with a multitude of goofy moves, doing no damage, as Piccolo gazes in astonishment and loss of hope. Gotenks then turns Super Saiyan and, with a powerful Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, blows Super Buu to tiny fragments. Piccolo, knowing what happened last time when Vegeta did relatively the same thing, orders Gotenks to destroy all the pieces of Super Buu. It was in vain, as the vapors from the burned pieces regathered and formed back into Super Buu, to which Piccolo curses his luck for not completely erasing the vulnerable pieces when they had the chance.

Piccolo surprised at Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks

Piccolo then asked Gotenks if he had any more special attacks left, which Gotenks falsely denies, stating that all was lost. With seemingly no options left, Piccolo destroys the entrance, trapping them in the room forever. Gotenks immediately insults Piccolo for this decision, and tells him of his plan to surprise Buu with a powerful attack pretending all is lost. Piccolo responds to this in complete disgust at Gotenks’ attitude towards the situation, and they begin to argue. Super Buu, so enraged about not having access to any candy ever again in his location, lets out a mighty scream, ripping the fabric between the dimensions and creating a portal through which he escaped. Gotenks and Piccolo try several times to recreate Super Buu’s portal but without any success. Eventually, when there seem to be no more options, Gotenks reveals that he had something up his sleeve, and turns Super Saiyan 3, with Piccolo once again, in astonishment.

Piccolo ready to hit the Buu Ball

Gotenks then quickly (and with more ease than the powered up Buu) blared open a portal which himself and Piccolo escaped from. On exiting, Super Buu boasted of his devouring all adult and teenager friends on the lookout, causing Gotenks to finally get serious and fight Super Buu fully. The resulting battle destroyed Kami’s Lookout, leaving Piccolo despaired until he was asked by Gotenks to assist him in an attack where Super Buu was battered around like a volleyball whilst sealed inside Gotenks’ Galactic Donuts.

Piccolo continued to observe the battle until Gotenks, just as he had a possible chance to defeat Super Buu with his enormous strength, reverted to his base form shortly before the fusion itself wore off. Seeing no hope left, Piccolo prepared to make his last stand with the two young Saiyans who could no longer fuse for an hour. Super Buu was distracted though, and the appearance of Gohan, now massively more powerful than he had been before was the reason. Gohan attacked Super Buu and proved to be his superior by far; Super Buu retaliated by exploding and hiding his ki from the group. While waiting for him to reappear, Gohan filled Piccolo in on his training at the planet of the Supreme Kais, where he had been since, his first encounter with Mr. Buu, while Piccolo was a stone statue, and his mystical power up by the workings of Old Kai that predated the current one by fifteen generations.

They then left to find Dende, whom Gohan sensed was still alive thanks to Popo’s sacrifice. On the way they encountered Mr. Satan and Piccolo picked him up, seeing in him the beginnings of a true hero. They then reunited with Dende, but it was brief as Super Buu chose this moment to attack them again. Though Gohan stepped up to defeat him for good, Super Buu instead challenged Goten and Kid Trunks to fight him as Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks again, which they obliged. It was part of his plan though and once Gotenks appeared, he sprung his trap to absorb him for his power and also Piccolo for his intelligence.

Hmm…Who would have thought, Vegeta comes through in the clutch.

After being rescued by Goku and Vegeta (as Vegito, who was purposely absorbed by Buu to free the others), Piccolo was killed along with Goten, Gohan, and Trunks when Kid Buu blew up the Earth, while Goku and Vegeta managed to escape Earth. Piccolo was soon revived, along with the Earth and all its inhabitants, by wishes granted by Porunga. He then gave his energy to help form a Spirit Bomb being created by Goku to finish off Kid Buu after receiving Vegeta’s planet-wide message, broadcasted by King Kai. Some time after Kid Buu is destroyed, in a filler episode, Piccolo, along with other characters, is at Bulma’s house for a party.

Piccolo tries to attack Tagoma with his efforts, but he isn’t strong enough to match Tagoma. Gohan helped Piccolo by shooting a blast at Tagoma to get him away. Then, Captain Ginyu switched bodies with Tagoma and takes on the Z Fighters with his immense power. They are easily beat by Ginyu with just single punches to everyone. After that, Piccolo watches Gohan transformed into a Super Saiyan and beat Ginyu in several hits but spared him. Frieza gets furious and starts shooting Death Beams at Gohan. Piccolo training with Gohan

Sometime after the battle with Golden Frieza, Piccolo is training with Gohan. As they are training, they are approached by Vegeta, Goku, and Krillin. Piccolo is asked by Goku to participate in the tournament against Universe 6 but Gohan wants to do it. However, Gohan says he can’t because there’s an important conference he has to attend the day of the tournament. Piccolo then takes up on the offer and says he would like more information about the situation. Piccolo, Goku, and Vegeta head to Capsule Corporation, where Bulma is waiting on Jaco. Piccolo examines the Super Dragon Radar but while examining it, Piccolo is asked by Goku to train with him and Vegeta in the Time Chamber. Piccolo, however declines, saying he would rather train in silence because he can’t keep up with them.

Piccolo and Vegeta at Capsule Corporation

When Jaco arrives, Piccolo and co. head outside. When Vegeta notes that Saiyan women are strong-willed, Piccolo realizes why Goku likes Chi-Chi and Vegeta likes Bulma. Five days later, Piccolo is attending the tournament on the Nameless Planet because he has been selected by Goku to participate on Beerus’ team, he along with Goku, Vegeta, Majin Buu, and the strongest fighter Beerus has ever fought. On the way to the Nameless Planet, while Vegeta is curious about a mystery being on the ship, Whis says it’s the strongest fighter Beerus has ever faced, Monaka. Vegeta is shocked because of his appearance then Piccolo says they tend to underestimate their opponents off of appearance.

After two hours and forty-five minutes of traveling, they arrive on the Nameless Planet. Once they arrive, the written test, requested by Vegeta, is ready to commence. Piccolo senses good in Frost after Goku and Vegeta suggests he’s Frieza. Vados demands everyone to sit because the exam is beginning. Piccolo stands by Goku and Vegeta as they are approached by one of universe six’s warriors, Cabba. He reveals that he’s a Saiyan from universe six and says interesting things about their universe’s Saiyans such as having evolved past tails, the original home planet of Sadala is still present in Universe 6 and Saiyans are good beings and they do not steal planets but rather help defeat evil beings.

Piccolo removing his weights

After this encounter, everyone beings the exam which is ten questions to test the basic knowledge of the warriors. After the time span of ten minutes, Piccolo passes the exam but Good Buu fails, the only one, and Piccolo even yells at him for spelling his name wrong but Buu has not done anything like it before. Piccolo, Goku, and Vegeta then see Beerus who demands they select their slots of who fights when: Goku fights first, Piccolo second, Vegeta third, and Monaka fourth. After the Referee introduces the singer to sing the universe anthem, he presents the first match between Goku and Botamo. As he watches the match, Piccolo thinks that Goku’s stamina will decrease first, Vegeta doesn’t think Goku can win if he can’t deal damage to Botamo. Piccolo thinks that Goku can only hurt Botamo if he goes all out but Vegeta doesn’t think Goku should. Piccolo is shocked to see that Goku thought of pushing Botamo down and throwing him out the ring but he didn’t think of that tactic.

After Botamo is defeated, Piccolo watches the match between Goku and Frost. Piccolo sees Frost transform into his third form. Frost’s third form makes him remember all of the negative attributes of Frieza and the events that occurred on Planet Namek. Piccolo is surprised when Goku is defeated by Frost. Piccolo confronts Frost, he takes his weighted clothing off and prepares to fight. Frost first charges towards Piccolo but Piccolo vanishes and move above Frost where he starts to prepare his Special Beam Cannon, Frost then fired multiple death beams at Piccolo but Piccolo dodges all of them except for one which pierced through his right leg, causing him to fall back on the ground, but then Piccolo uses the Multi-Form.

Piccolo vs. Frost

Frost uses an explosive wave to wipe out all of the clones leaving the one real Piccolo behind and he then did a few swift attacks towards Piccolo and just as Frost was about to finish him off. Because of his upcoming victory, Frost is off guard. Piccolo uses the mystic arm attack and wrapped around Frost with his left arm, preparing to shoot the Special Beam Cannon at Frost. Piccolo says that he allowed Frost to pierce his leg in order to create this chance. However though Frost then uses the poison against Piccolo making him feel dizzy and shot the Special Beam Cannon upwards, missing Frost. Frost then moves towards Piccolo and shoots an energy blast through Piccolo causing the Namekian’s defeat.

Piccolo is disqualified though after everyone discovers Frost’s cheat, Piccolo’s loss is retracted. Therefore, Piccolo will participate in the next match. However, Vegeta tells referee to let Frost continue the tournament as Vegeta wanted to beat Frost himself, Piccolo accepts to be forfeited. Piccolo comes back to sit with his team, he announces Vegeta that this upcoming match won’t be lightly. After Vegeta defeats Frost, Piccolo watches the next match between Vegeta and Magetta. Vegeta gets insane and releases his ki. Vegeta’s ki breaks Vados’ new barrier into pieces. The fragments of the barrier dart around. Piccolo dodges them, he is surprised that Monaka didn’t move even an inch to avoid. While watching the match between Vegeta and Cabba, Piccolo realizes that Goku is concerned about Hit, the strongest fighter from Universe 6. After taking out Cabba, Vegeta faces Hit. Piccolo can’t believe that Vegeta is quickly defeated. Even Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo couldn’t see Hit’s attacks. Piccolo hears Whis mentions that Monaka is just an amateur and he is simply motivation for Goku and Vegeta, and is shocked. The match between Goku and Hit begins. Piccolo is stunned when Hit screams and improves his power in such a short amount of time. Piccolo then sees Goku uses his old technique and becomes a Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken. He is impressed by Goku’s extreme fast speed. He then watches as Goku forfeits his match against Hit, deliberately falling out of the ring. Piccolo also stands silent during the arrival of Zeno. Piccolo is then present as the Super Dragon Balls are used to summon Super Shenron, and then returns home with the other Z-Fighters.

Piccolo says its an attack that focuses energy in one point like the Special Beam Cannon and is shot from far away. Also, Piccolo cannot sense the attacker’s energy. Gohan asks if Dr. Rota is dead, Piccolo says that if he would be dead then the attacker would have been disqualified, meaning he is still alive. Gohan and Piccolo decide to move to an area with rubble without the attacker seeing them. Afterwards, Piccolo’s arm is shot off, however Piccolo regenerates, and the two decide to find the attacker. While spheres are patrolling the area, Piccolo puts his arm out in the open, and is shot, however he dodges it. Gohan saw the direction of the shot and the two decide to head there to take out the attacker. Gohan throws a rock which Piccolo blows up with a Ki Blast, creating dust, which they use as cover. In the dust, Piccolo finds one of Prum’s spheres. Piccolo wonders what the sphere does, and the two are attacked once again. Piccolo destroys the sphere, revealing that the sphere had heat. Piccolo then takes a shot that was meant for Gohan, this time, both of his arms are shot off, however Piccolo regenerates once again. Piccolo reveals that the attacker is looking for their body heat, explaining why the attacker was capable of shooting them even in the dust. Piccolo and Gohan then heat up the entire area with heat in order to trick the attacker. Prum then bombards the entire area with Ki Blasts, cutting off Gohan and Piccolo. Gohan and Piccolo hide under a rock, as Tien comes to help them, dodge all the Ki Blasts. Piccolo and Gohan witness as Tien is eliminated by Hermila. After Hermila and Prum are eliminated, Piccolo and Gohan depart together.

The fight however is unable to be finished due to Goku and Kefla’s fight interrupting all other fights. After Goku defeats Kefla, Piccolo and Gohan resume there battle with Saonel and Pilina. While squaring off with them both Piccolo and Gohan sense a major change in them. Piccolo realize what they did and engage the super powered Namekians. Piccolo is driven back into a wall by Pilina, who confirms Piccolo’s theory that they fused with many Namekians. Piccolo pushes him off as Gohan powers up to his Ultimate state and tells Piccolo he can handle both of them no problem but wants Piccolo to focus all his power. Piccolo begins charging a full power Special Beam Cannon as Gohan engages the pair. Gohan is caught by Saonel who holds him in the air and Piccolo panics and fires what he had charged and it doesn’t do anything, forcing Gohan to break free take the hit for both of them.

Nail and Kami wake Piccolo up

Unconscious, Piccolo is greeted by Kami and Nail, who point in front of him to see Gohan shielding him. Gohan apologizes and says he will get serious now and asks Piccolo to do it again as it will work. Piccolo apologizes to Gohan for getting on him about not being a warrior when he himself allowed himself to get caught up in his fellow Namekian’s fighting spirit, but Piccolo vows to never allow that to happen again. He gets serious and charges up all his power into his Special Beam Cannon as Gohan is dominating both Saonel and Pilina. As Gohan fires his Ultimate Kamehameha at the Namekian duo for the finish, Pilina holds them on the stage with a Mouth Energy Wave as Saonel pulls his way through the attack. Assuming he has Gohan, Saonel jumps out of the attack only for Gohan to smile at him to reveal Piccolo behind him as Piccolo fires his full power Special Beam Cannon easily piercing clean through both Saonel and Pilina. Seeing his moment at his wounded foes, Gohan unleashes his full power blowing them clean out of the arena, eliminating Universe 6.

Piccolo tries to contact someone on New Namek

While at The Lookout, Piccolo and Dende both sense something terrible happening on New Namek. Piccolo tells Dende that a few days ago he stopped being able to sense Goku and Vegeta’s energy signature on Earth and that they must have travelled there. He feels that something must definitely be happening there and it can not be something good. Piccolo then tries using telepathy to contact someone on New Namek only to get no response from them suggesting to Dende that the Namekians capable of telepathy are all dead much to Dende’s fear. Piccolo is then under the feeling of certainty that something terrible is happening in space. As the Marcereni gang approaches Earth for the Blue Aurum, Piccolo senses their approach and tells Dende someone is approaching. Dende asks Piccolo if they have anything to do with the situation that is happening in space but Piccolo replies he’s not sure. Piccolo decides to leave the Lookout to check out the situation and eventually confronts the Marcereni gang in their ship that he sensed. The gang then spots Piccolo and decide to shoot him down with their ship but Piccolo easily flies and escapes from the blasts unfazed and lands on top of their ship. Ghetti then spots Piccolo standing on top of their ship and informs his siblings about it. Piccolo then comments to the Marcereni gang that they have been rude guests after shooting at him without questioning him first.

Piccolo dodges Ghetti Macareni’s attacks

Piccolo is then in a middle of a fight against them where he easily dodges Ghetti’s Bind Wave attacks. Pasta then proceeds to fall some stones within Piccolo’s vicinity and having infused the stones with his ki proceeds to explode them around Piccolo. Penne then charges toward Piccolo and uses her Mystic Attack in an attempt to grab him only to grab his cape. Piccolo then extends his arms out of the cloud of smoke and grabs Ghetti and Penne, throwing them toward Pasta who they hit and weakening all 3 individuals once they fall down. Piccolo then ties the Marcereni gang up asks who they are and questions the gang if they are tied to the disturbance in space. Pasta then replies they are just friendly aliens passing through and apologizes for being so quick to attack him. Piccolo believes that they are not affiliated with whatever is going on in space so he releases them and tells them never to come back to Earth. Just when the Marcereni gang are in their ship heading off to space, Bulma and Dende head towards Piccolo and Dende shouts for Piccolo to not let the gang get away as they are allied with the one responsible. Piccolo quickly shoots down the Marcereni gang’s ship and confronts the gang for tricking him but he is told that it is too late as they have already contacted Moro’s main forces.

Piccolo vs. Seven-Three

Everyone returns to the Lookout including the captured Macareni Gang. When Jaco arrives he brings along Esca and Piccolo is distressed to hear that he, Dende and Esca are the last three surviving Namekians. When Jaco is informed by HQ that three of Moro’s minions, Seven-Three, Shimorekka and Yunba are heading for Earth, Piccolo asks Jaco what they need to know about them and he is told of Seven-Three’s ability to steal other peoples powers for half an hour. When they suddenly and unexpectedly appear on the Lookout using a warp portal, Piccolo stops Shimorekka from killing the Macareni Gang, telling him that no killing is allowed on the sanctuary and that evil doers are not welcome on Earth. Caught unaware, Seven-Three grabs Piccolo, stealing his powers and fires a Special Beam Cannon at him that Piccolo barely dodges. After Jaco is punched off of the Lookout, Piccolo rushes to his aid believing he can’t fly though Jaco saves himself using his jet boosters. With Seven-Three having pursued Piccolo, the two begin a battle where each uses the same abilities with the same level of power however Piccolo comes off the worse due to Seven-Three having an infinite amount of stamina. The two engage in a Special Beam Cannon clash with Jaco telling Piccolo to try and hold on for 30 minutes so that his powers return to normal but Piccolo says he is unable and is seemingly overwhelmed.

Piccolo beaten by Shimorekka

He is in fact saved by Gohan and warns him not to let Seven-Three grab him and that he is currently the strongest fighter they have on Earth. After he sees Gohan take Seven-Three down, he joins his side and cites his mixed feelings on seeing what is essentially a copy of himself being taken down so easily. After Seven-Three switches to using Moro’s abilities, Piccolo joins the others in assaulting him only to be blocked off and have his energy absorbed. Drained, Piccolo and the others are beaten by Shimorekka and Yunba until they ordered to return by Saganbo.

Piccolo and Gohan attack Seven-Three

Two months later, Piccolo joins the Dragon Team and Galactic Patrol in preparation for the Galactic Bandit Brigade’s assault on Earth. When the convicts scatter across Earth to steal its riches, the defenders of Earth split up but Piccolo stays with Gohan to take on the main threat. An invisible Seven-Three appears from behind the pair and steals their abilities once again. However this time they are prepared and despite first using Piccolo’s and then Gohan’s abilities, the real Piccolo and Gohan are able to outmatch him by using team work. The two take him down using a unison Special Beam Cannon and Masenko and Seven-Three resorts to using Moro’s energy draining abilities again.

The Dragon Team overpowered by Saganbo

Before being able to though, he is attacked by Android 17 who arrives along with Android 18. Piccolo gives his thanks for the two of them being there as they do not have energy that can be drained making them an ideal match for Seven-Three. When Android 17 almost finishes off Seven-Three, Moro finally appears and Piccolo notes that he is on another level. Saganbo steps forward and asks if he can take care of them as Moro shares some of his power with him. Piccolo and the others find themselves greatly overpowered as Piccolo curse their fortune that they still have to deal with another powerful enemy before Moro.

Piccolo and Gohan fight Saganbo

Continuing the fight alongside Gohan, Piccolo and Gohan fire a powerful blast in unison directly at Saganbo, but he is unharmed and merely batters them away. Before things can get worse however, Goku arrives and quickly overpowers Saganbo though Piccolo is initially unable to either see his movements or sense his energy. When Goku joins Gohan and Piccolo’s side he praises the strength they had obtained over the last two months, and watches as Goku battles Saganbo which eventually results in his death after being given more energy by Moro than his body could handle. Piccolo then continues to watch as Goku goes up against Moro and eventually backs off further to join Android 17 and 18’s side, commenting on the ongoing fight and saying that Goku appears to be the faster of the two. However Goku loses the bout when he pushes his power too far, Gohan suggests going to help him but Piccolo tells him that it would be reckless to jump in when their power could be absorbed to make Moro stronger.

Shortly afterwards, Vegeta returns to Earth and is the next to take on Moro. As Vegeta battles on, Piccolo voices his surprise at his newfound level of power though notes that it still will not be enough for him to win. However he soon realises that Moro is getting weaker just before noticing that energy is being extracted from him and is forming into a ball in the sky. Goku refers to the technique as Forced Spirit Fission and Vegeta pauses his battle momentarily to tell Piccolo that he could extract the Namekians that he had combined with long ago. After Vegeta releases Moro’s stolen energy back to its point of origin, Piccolo tells Goku that he can not get over how much Vegeta has grown as a human being, having gone from once invading Earth to now saving the Universe. He owes this growth to Goku while telling him that he has not changed at all since he’s known him and never needs to. Unfortunately, Vegeta’s advantage does not last for long when Moro achieves greater power after absorbing Seven-Three.

Piccolo is struck down by Moro’s Special Beam Cannon

After Moro steals Vegeta’s abilities and takes him down for a second time, Piccolo tells Goku that the situation is worse than he realised now that Moro has Force Spirit Fission for himself as it means that they can not rely on Fusion as a last resort. Piccolo enters the battle along with Gohan to distract Moro long enough for Goku to pull off the Instant Kamehameha but Moro, using his Piccolo’s ability to regenerate, quickly heals from the damage and takes Goku down in brutal fashion followed by Gohan. Dende, making his way to the battlefield to heal everyone, telepathically contacts Piccolo though Piccolo urges him to stop after realising that Moro can hear him too. Moro erects a barrier to avoid interference and Piccolo plans to use it to his advantage in firing off an all or nothing attack but before he is able to, Moro takes Piccolo down using a Special Beam Cannon.

Piccolo and the others give their energy to Vegeta

Piccolo is eventually healed by Dende and he and the others return to the battlefield during the final battle between Goku and Moro. When Goku is having his energy drained, Piccolo asks Vegeta if he is able to use his Forced Spirit Fission in reverse by giving energy to Goku. Piccolo and the others give their energy to Vegeta so that he can pass it on to Goku in an attempt to revitalise him though this only proves enough to transform him into Super Saiyan Blue. However when all hope seems lost, Goku receives the god power that he needed in order to transform him back into Autonomous Ultra Instinct where he promptly finishes the job.

Piccolo and the rest of his friends soon celebrate their hard earned victory afterwards with a feast at Satan House.

After Hearts re-appears and kills Zamasu, he attempts to face him along with the others but is taken down multiple times with ease. Piccolo tells them that they can not afford to run because Hearts has the power to destroy the entire universe so he buys Goku and Vegeta some time so that they can fuse into Gogeta. While watching Gogeta in action, Hearts summons a powerful God Meteor. After Gogeta, Jiren and Hit destroy it with a combined blast, Piccolo blasts away at the remaining fragments while Gogeta charges ahead. Gogeta finally defeats Hearts and peace returns to Earth once more.

In the manga, Piccolo and Android 17 arrive to help Goku and Vegeta fight Hearts, however they are intercepted by Rags – who will not allow anyone to interfere in Hearts’ fight. Piccolo fakes his death at Rags’ attack so that while Android 17 distracts her he can prepare a Special Beam Cannon to destroy her Glass Dragon. Once Piccolo destroys the Glass Dragon, Rags is defeated by Android 17. Soon after, when the God Meteor is shattered, Piccolo uses another Special Beam Cannon to destroy shards of it.

When Goku returns to teleport both Piccolo and the boy away, Piccolo gives him the energy he needs to do so, but decides to remain behind. The reason for the Earth’s destruction was due to the Black Star Dragon Balls, artifacts made by Kami before he split with King Piccolo; by Piccolo’s sacrifice, the Black Star Dragon Balls would be turned eternally to stone. His last moments show him having a telepathic farewell conversation with Gohan before dying again in the explosion on Earth. He does not wish to be brought back to life, so the Earth can be at peace from the Black Star Dragon Balls. He is sent to Heaven by King Yemma.

Piccolo in Cooler’s Revenge

Piccolo ends up saving Gohan from Cooler’s Armored Squadron, hitting Dore in the back with a ki blast just as Dore was going to crush Gohan’s head with his right hand. Having witnessed their fighting style earlier, he also tells them they are unlikely to kill him. He later saves Gohan from Dore’s pursuit by firing a homing energy beam at Dore, eventually killing Dore when his attempt at deflecting it failed. Piccolo then was caught in Neiz’s body wave, although he shortly thereafter reflected it back at Neiz, frying and killing him. He then attempted to attack Salza with two chasing bullets, but Salza managed to parry them.

They fought to a stalemate, but just before Piccolo could kill Salza, he ended up ambushed by Cooler, being hit with a beam to the chest. In the English dub, just before Cooler’s arrival, Salza inquired Piccolo’s identity in shock, with Piccolo obliging before warning Salza that he should never have come to Earth. Piccolo could only express shock at Frieza’s apparent survival, mistaking Cooler for his brother Frieza, while being hit with multiple Chaotic Death Ends. Eventually, Cooler manages to bring a comatose Piccolo to Salza, asking him what he should do with him. When Salza properly introduces Cooler to Goku, Cooler demonstrates how merciless he is by dropping Piccolo’s body and then hitting him with yet another Death Beam before Goku could catch him, to Goku’s horror and rage. This action was one of the things in Goku’s mind that resulted in Goku becoming a Super Saiyan again. Despite this, Picolo managed to survive this, and later managed to save Gohan, Goku, Icarus, Oolong, and Krillin from Salza by firing a Special Beam Cannon at him from far away.

He then saved Gohan from Broly’s Eraser Cannon at the last second, and then accused Broly of being a monster who picks on children first, before Broly counters that he’s not simply a “monster”, but the devil himself. Piccolo then gives Gohan, Goku, and Future Trunks Senzu Beans to refresh them before they challenged Broly again. Piccolo was eventually knocked away by Broly to Vegeta’s location. He then tries to force Vegeta to fight Broly, but when it became apparent that Vegeta was not going to snap out of his terrified state, he, disgusted with Vegeta’s cowardly behavior, drops him down to the city after telling him to stay clear of the true warriors. Dragon Ball Online

Main article: Dragon Ball Online Thanks to the Eternal Youth he gained as King Piccolo, Piccolo lives on for many years without aging, outliving most of his friends and allies.

Pre-Age 1000

In Age 804, Piccolo witnesses the release of his student Gohan’s scholarly research into ki and the martial arts which was inspired by the death of his father. This research is complied in Gohan’s book “Groundbreaking Science” which becomes a best seller introducing the concept of ki and other advanced martial arts concepts to the general public of Earth.

In Age 820, the Frieza Force remnants lead by the remaining Guard Troops decide to invade Earth after Mr. Satan’s death, as they mistakenly believed he had killed Frieza. It is unknown if Piccolo joined the Earth’s Martial artists, Kikoukenjutsu Sword School Swordsmen, and remaining Z Fighters in fighting off the invasion after the Frieza Force defeated the Earth’s Royal Army, though a year later his comrades Krillin and Tien who did fight both founded new iterations of, the Turtle School and Crane School respectively as Master Roshi retires from teaching.

In Age 851, New Namek was destroyed by Mira, however fortunately, Grand Elder Moori and several Namekian refugees are able to escape to Earth, with Piccolo and Dende welcoming their fellow Namekians to rebuild their civilization and culture on Earth which is now populated by Earthlings, Earthling-Saiyan hybrid descendants of Goku and Vegeta’s children, and the Majin descendants of Buu. Recognizing the threat that the Time Breakers represent to Earth, Dende informs the King of Earth. However, this information is kept secret from the average citizen, as it is feared it would cause a panic.

At first the Namekians live in West City as residents. Later most of them move to Porunga Rocks in Yunzabit Heights where the original incarnation of the Nameless Namekian had previously lived during his youth, but some of them remain in West City and develop their own culture. To atone for losing their second homeworld to Mira’s Army, the Dragon Clan and Warrior-type Namekians begin training to hone their skills in Age 853. Piccolo and Nail’s fellow Warrior-types eventually develop the Shadow Warrior and Dark Warrior classes both of which utilize techniques that originate from Piccolo himself (indicating he may have taught them to this new generation of Warrior-type Namekians or they incorporated his techniques into their fighting styles out of respect).

Piccolo discovered that some of the Dark Vassals of of the demonic clan he was born into had survived the King Piccolo wars after King Piccolo was sealed away and bred in the wild, while others had been secretly incubating under Pilaf’s Castle. However Piccolo determined he could not resolve the situation presented by the existence of his mutated demonic kin on his own. Eventually sometime after the Namekians emigration, Grand Elder Moori was informed about the existence of their mutated demonic brethren and at his suggestion, Piccolo supported by a group of Namekians captured capture these monsters and keep them secured. In the midst of this, some Dragon clansmen started to research these monsters and were able to master handling them. This knowledge leads to the birth of “Poko Priest” class which specialize in the use of King Piccolo’s Pokopen technique to create their own mutated Namekians spawn such as Poko Land Dragons and Poko Sky Dragons.

After the birth of the Black Namekian Nara, many Namekians would later fail to discard their evil thoughts and become Narak-type Namekians themselves.[14] This would eventually spark a civil war between the good Namekians lead by Grand Elder Moori and these new Dark Namekians. Feeling responsible due to his status as King Piccolo’s reincarnation, Piccolo decides to keep an eye on the Earth’s latest generation of demonic Namekians.

By Age 975, Dende introduces a new child-rearing policy to the King of Earth: “Troublemaker Education”, wherein Earthling, Namekian, and Majin children are removed from the loving care of their parents and live independently in nature which was apparently inspired by Piccolo’s training of Gohan (which mirrored Piccolo Junior’s early childhood) and Goku’s early life living on Mount Paozu in the hope that it will bring about another “savior” like Goku and Gohan. Ultimately it is approved leading to the establishment of Kokkara Village and Pear Village.

By Age 990, Piccolo and Dende are forced to watch as the Earth’s peace deteriorates; various villainous organizations emerge including the surviving Frieza Force remnants, a new incarnation of the Red Ribbon Army called the Red Pants Army founded a year later, and a new incarnation of the Pilaf Gang lead by Pilaf’s descendant Paella, as a result of the turmoil surrounding the monstrous wild animals and demonic beasts roaming the Earth. Dende has Popo Stones installed all over the world, with the future of Earth’s next generation of heroes in training in mind, Dende requests help from Fortuneteller Baba to install these stones in every region. They allow people to return to the area in which the stone is located after they faint during battle. To make matters worse, Mira and his army finally invade Earth, causing Dende to task Piccolo with investigating Mira’s army and the various evil organizations that have appeared throughout the world.

Piccolo’s old ally Future Trunks is recruited into the Time Patrol by the Chronoa and using one of the Time Patrol’s Time Machines goes to Earth of the main Dragon Ball Online timeline in Age 999 to inform everyone of the true threat posed by Mira who from his base in Boo World has led his army of Time Breakers to invade the past which Mira leads alongside his creator/wife Towa.

Piccolo continues investigating unusual circumstances on Earth, discovering the forces of the Red Pants Army, Paella Gang, Frieza Force remnants, & Time Breakers. Returning from his investigation, Piccolo informs Dende and their allies about Mira posing a threat to Earth. However, he realizes that at this time, no warrior who could face this threat exists.

Additionally at some point, Piccolo encounters the Dark Namekian General Gamelan who currently leads the Dark Namekians. Piccolo however lacks the power to stop Gamelan and Dark Namekians plans.

The events of Dragon Ball Online primarily take place on Earth in Age 1000.

As Earth is divided into pieces among the villainous factions, each party with sinister goals of their own due to the Time Breakers, the Time Patroller Future Trunks is sent to Age 1000 to recruit Earth’s current generation of young heroes to join the Time Patrol in order combat Time Breakers alterations of history and to aid Piccolo and Dende in restoring peace to the Earth.

Among these Time Patrollers is the game’s customizable protagonist known as the Youth. Piccolo himself provides the Youth and their fellow Time Patrollers with everything he knows about the villain factions and their plans. They also assist Piccolo and the Dragon Team of the past by fixing the alterations to history caused by the Time Breakers and their allies. In Age 762, they aid Piccolo during his training of Gohan, by helping subdue Great Ape Gohan when he falls prey to the Time Breaker Mind Control due to the actions of Mira’s familiar looking subordinate the Masked Saiyan.

Eventually the Time Patrol confront the Dark Namekians at their stronghold in Chocolay Tower. Gamelan is defeated by the Time Patrol resulting in the downfall of his attempts to create an evil divine hierarchy and their Dark Senzu Bean cultivation operation. However Gamelan tries to seek support from the Time Breaker Namekian Week, however Week betrays and kills him for allowing Chocolay Tower to fall. However Week himself is in turn killed by the Time Patrol, thus putting an end to the Dark Namekians and their plans of world domination, to the relief of Piccolo and Dende.

During Super Buu’s rampage, Demigra’s Mirage uses his dark magic to take control of Piccolo and has him attack Goten and Trunks to alter history to free Demigra from the Crack of Time. The Demon God also forces Dark Super Buu to perform Super Vanishing Ball to destroy the Earth, killing Ultimate Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, Dende, Mr. Satan before the arrival of Goku and Vegeta. The Future Warrior travels back in time to free Dark Piccolo from Demigra’s control by giving him a sound beating. Piccolo is later freed and Demigra’s Mirage leaves while Demigra maintains control over Dark Super Buu, which Gotenks and the Warrior manage to work together until Ultimate Gohan arrives. However, Super Buu is transformed by Dark Magic to take on his original Kid Buu form, who wastes not time in blowing up Earth killing Piccolo, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks, though Goku manages to save Dende, Mr. Satan, and the Future Warrior and joins him and Vegeta on the Sacred World of the Kai.

Demon God Demigra Saga

During the second ending, a spiritual manifestation of Piccolo appears along with Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Krillin who lend the Future Warrior power which allows them to kill Demigra with a Z-Spirit Kamehameha.

Raditz’s Attack

In Xenoverse 2, the Future Warrior is a new Time Patroller selected by Chronoa to protect history. Their first mission is to deal with another alteration to Age 761, in which Raditz manages to dodge Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon, though Goku survives. Suddenly thee 2nd Future Warrior appears but ends up messing up their entrance before joining the battle. Piccolo asks the Warrior to help Goku keep Raditz busy while he prepares to charge up on last Special Beam Cannon. Like the original Future Warrior, the 2nd is able to weaken Raditz enough for Goku and Piccolo to kill him with the Full-Nelson Special Beam Cannon.

The Saiyan Threat

In Age 762, the Warrior joins the other Z Fighters in taking on Nappa and Vegeta. However they soon sense someone preventing Goku from reaching them, forcing the Warrior to leave to help Goku fight off the evil Saiyan Turles who had been recruited by the Time Breakers from another timeline. After driving Turles off, Goku and the Warrior return to the battlefield after Piccolo sacrifices himself to save Gohan. The Warrior manages to avenge Piccolo by defeating Nappa and after he transforms into a Great Ape alongside Vegeta, kills Nappa and helps Goku, Gohan, Krillin, and Yajirobe (who is unseen, though ends up cutting off Vegeta’s tail) defeat Great Ape Vegeta.

The Galactic Emperor

During the Battle on Planet Namek, the Future Warrior is sent to aid Nail against 1st Form Dark Frieza, helping him by time so Dende can help Gohan and Krillin revive Piccolo and wish him to Namek. The Warrior is successful, but they discover that Turles and Lord Slug are near the Dragon Balls and is called back as soon as Nail informs Frieza that he had been stalling. The Future Warrior uses the Time Scroll to travel back further, to save Gohan and Krillin from the villains who seek to use the Dragon Balls to obtain immortality, though put aside their differences to deal with the Warrior. The Warrior convinces Gohan and Krillin to take the Dragon Balls and flee while they deal with Turles and Lord Slug. With help from Xeno Trunks, the 2nd Future Warrior manages to defeat the pair after they are transformed into the incomplete Supervillain forms by Towa’s new spell. Meanwhile, Gohan, Krillin, and Dende use the Dragon Balls to revive Piccolo and transport him to Namek, where he fuses with the injured Nail. Dark Frieza once again transforms directly into his Final Form, causing Piccolo to apologize to Gohan and the others for bringing him back for nothing in the face of Frieza’s overwhelming power. Ultimately the Future Warrior is forced to keep Frieza busy while Goku charges the Spirit Bomb. Piccolo is injured by Frieza, though Goku manages to take Frieza’s Killer Ball attack inside of dodging it, thus the Warrior doesn’t have to shield Gohan and Piccolo like the original Future Warrior did. The Future Warrior and Super Saiyan Goku manage to defeat Frieza and his brother Cooler who had been transported through time by Towa to aid his brother in defeating the Super Saiyan.

Decisive Battle with Majin Buu

During Majin Vegeta’s battle with Majin Buu in Age 774, Piccolo arrives after Majin Vegeta knocks out Trunks and Goten telling him to take them far away. The Future Warrior flies away together with Piccolo carrying the boys as Vegeta attempts to kill Majin Buu with his Final Explosion and dies like in the original history. During the battle with Super Buu, the Future Warrior aids Piccolo and Gotenks in combating the evil Majin. After Gotenks fusion times out, Piccolo and the Warrior take on Super Buu, buying enough time for Ultimate Gohan to arrive.

The Emperor’s Return

During Frieza’s Revenge, due to Towa’s meddling and impersonation of Chronoa, Whis and Beerus travel to the Time Nest in Age 852, preventing Whis from saving Goku and his friends from Frieza’s Earth Breaker, which kills Piccolo and all those saved by Whis. However Whis’ Temporal Do-Over allows the Future Warrior to stop Frieza’s attack, forcing Frieza and the revived Cooler to take on their Supervillain forms, though they are defeated by the combined might of Goku, Vegeta, and the Future Warrior.

Battle With Universe Six

During the Tournament with Universe 6, a history change causes Goku and Majin Buu to miss the tournament, though the Future Warrior takes Buu’s spot, while the original Future Warrior and Xeno Trunks find Goku training on King Kai’s Planet, unaware it was the day of the tournament. As a result, Piccolo fight Botamo in Goku’s place. Though he struggles at first, he eventually manages to defeat Botamo. After the Warrior passes the test, Champa suggests tag matches which Beerus agrees to, so Piccolo and the Warrior pair up to take on Frost and Cabba. While Piccolo faces Cabba, the Warrior faces Frost. However, when Frost uses his Secret Poison, the Warrior is almost defeated by ring out, though Piccolo manages to break off from fighting Cabba long enough to stop Frost’s attack, allowing the Future Warrior to recover. Eventually, Frost’s cheating is discovered and his true colors are revealed, though Vegeta tells the warrior to not settle for a disqualification and make Frost pay. After Frost is defeated, Vegeta asks Piccolo to step down. As a result, Vegeta and the Warrior face off against Cabba and Hit. Thanks to the Warrior’s efforts the Tournament with Universe 6 ends in a victory for Universe 7 like in the original timeline.

What-if scenarios

Supersonic Warriors

In Piccolo’s story, Piccolo has Porunga revive King Piccolo and fuses with him, regaining the Nameless Namekian’s true power. This allows to match Super Buu in combat.

Supersonic Warriors 2

In the what-if story “Majin Piccolo”, Piccolo becomes a Majin instead of Vegeta and appears with Frieza, Cell, and Super Buu.

Manga and Anime

Piccolo raises his energy to fight the Androids.

Piccolo is the most powerful Namekian in Universe 7 and Universe 6, with Grand Elder Guru remarking him (or rather his original self the Nameless Namekian) to be a prodigy amongst prodigies, and even strong enough to stand up to Super Saiyans. Piccolo has been the strongest Z Fighter in the series at two points: when he fuses with Nail to battle Frieza and after he fuses with Kami to become the Nameless Namekian again in order to combat the Androids. Through the rest of the series, he has tended to rank in power below Goku and Vegeta but above Tien and Krillin. His special techniques often allow him to damage opponents with raw power higher than his own by concentrating it into a single attack, most notably the Special Beam Cannon.

Like his father, Piccolo was a challenging opponent for Goku, although he was at a disadvantage. He was able to heavily wound Goku with a surprise attack after which he barely managed to defeat him with a flying headbutt. His power level in early Dragon Ball Z is 322, and without his weighted clothing it is 408. His power was significantly inferior to Raditz, and Raditz’ superior speed allowed him to dodge Piccolo’s stronger attacks. Piccolo was able to generate an attack with a power level of 1,330 to kill Raditz and Goku after significant charge time. However, he managed to overcome Raditz only with the assistance of Goku and Gohan, who had managed to weaken the Saiyan.

During the year of preparation for the Saiyans, Piccolo was swiftly overwhelmed and nearly killed twice by Gohan after the boy transformed into a Great Ape, and was forced to destroy the Moon (As well as Goku’s Space Pod that was creating an artificial reflection of the Moon).

A year later, during the battle against the Saiyans, his power level is 3,500. Even after all his training, Piccolo was unable to to land any serious damage against Nappa, even with help from Krillin and Gohan. After training with King Kai and fusing with Nail, Piccolo was able to combat and gain the upper hand over Frieza in his second form, who boasted a power level of 1,000,000. Once Frieza transformed into his third form, Piccolo initially believed that he was still the faster of the two, but was quickly proven wrong when Frieza trapped him in a torturous barrage of Death Beams. In order to give Goku time to finish the Large Spirit Bomb, Piccolo (with energy from Gohan and Krillin) fought Frieza in his final form and managed to surprise him with a sneak attack before being overpowered.

Piccolo, after fusing with Kami, punches Android 17

After his training in preparation for the Androids, despite Android 20 absorbing most of his energy, once rejuvenated by a senzu bean, Piccolo was able to charge himself up to easily dominate Android 20. This made Krillin exclaim that Piccolo reached the Super Saiyan realm of strength, though Vegeta was dismissive of this. After fusing with Kami, he could defeat Imperfect Cell (with the population of Gingertown absorbed) while wearing his weighted clothing. Later, after removing his weighted clothing, his strength was on par with Android 17. Also, with his superior combat experience and ingenuity, he was able to keep up with the android’s unlimited energy to gain a slight advantage over the foe, whereas before, he was effortlessly dominated by 17 with only a single blow. Once Imperfect Cell arrived, Piccolo’s sneak attack was able to somewhat hurt Imperfect Cell (with several thousands of humans absorbed). Unfortunately, he is still utterly dominated by Imperfect Cell, and even his most powerful attack was unable to damage Cell. After Piccolo’s training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a day, Goku states that Piccolo has become a lot stronger but is still no match for Perfect Cell. After Goku surrenders to Cell during their fight, the evil Bio-Android states that neither Vegeta or Future Trunks compare to Goku at his full power, but in Dragon Ball Z Kai, he includes Piccolo (implying that Piccolo was comparable to Vegeta and Future Trunks at the time). With his new power, in the anime, along with Super Saiyan Vegeta, Piccolo is able to hold his own against and even hurt the Cell Juniors (who were said to have power similar to the suppressed Perfect Cell in the English dub). In the anime, Piccolo and the other Z Fighters fail to hurt Super Perfect Cell during his beam clash with Gohan; only annoying him, before being pushed aside when he flares up his aura. Only Vegeta distracted Cell long enough for Gohan to finish him.

During the very beginning of the Majin Buu Saga, Piccolo is too intimidated to fight Shin, either due to his strength or godly status. Against Babidi, Piccolo is able shake off the foe’s magic attacks and breach his barrier, allowing him to easily defeat the wizard by cutting him in half. It is implied that Piccolo is stronger than Goten and Trunks, as when Gotenks’ fusion wears off inside Buu, Piccolo’s traits become dominant – and it is said that Buu’s strongest absorption victim is the one who he shows dominant traits of.

In Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo is easily defeated by the God of Destruction, Beerus, with a kiai. During the Golden Frieza Saga, Piccolo is easily overpowered by Frieza’s strongest soldier, Tagoma.

In the anime, after Frieza’s defeat, Piccolo begins retraining Gohan. By the time of the Tournament of Destroyers in the anime, Piccolo was ahead of Gohan’s base power, as after a match, only Gohan showed exhaustion.

During the tournament, Piccolo and Goku both rated Piccolo’s power as insufficient to stand a chance against Frost, but Piccolo proved strong enough to hold his own. In the anime he possessed enough raw strength to hold Frost in place with one extended arm. Frost also admitted that Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon would have definitely defeated him. Additionally, Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon was strong enough to create a large hole through Vados’s force field barrier, to the shock of Champa, who believed her barrier to be unbreakable. In the manga, Piccolo proved able to skillfully dodge all of Frost’s blasts with his weights on. After removing them, Piccolo proved able to fight on par against the Universe 6 Emperor, dragging out the fight until both fighters were left winded, making Frost resort again to using his needle.

By the time of the Tournament of Power, Piccolo’s intensified training gave him an explosive boost in power. In the anime, Piccolo easily overwhelms Gohan in his Super Saiyan 2 form, but falls short of Gohan’s reawakened Potential Unleashed form. However, through strategy, he could still compete with the Saiyan hybrid. Later when sparring with Goku, Piccolo (without his weights) proves to be able to fire off a Hyper Explosive Demon Wave that base Goku can barely hold back.

During the Tournament of Power, in the anime, rather than going off on his own, Piccolo chose to remain with Gohan, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Master Roshi – they launched an assault that caused little to no damage against Lavender, Botamo, Comfrey, Shosa and Dercori. He easily dodged Dyrasem’s assault; when fighting Rubalt, the two seemed to be evenly matched, but Piccolo managed to instantly knock Rubalt out of the arena with his Hellzone Grenade. He was able to withstand Hermila’s Ki Blasts, albeit losing both arms. However, Piccolo was able to quickly regenerate multiple times from the same assault and continue battling effectively, showing considerable stamina. Piccolo was able to briefly fight on par with Saonel, and was able to blast him away with a ki blast when Gohan caught his hand. After realizing both Pirina and Saonel had assimilated many Namekians from Universe 6, Piccolo was still able to fight Pirina on somewhat equal footing (although his Hellzone Grenade is ineffective against the bulky Namekian). His non-fully charged Special Beam Cannon was able to deal some light damage to Pirina and his full power Special Beam Cannon is able to pierce both Namekians and go through Pirina’s energy wave. Saonel was amazed that there is a Namekian like Piccolo who possesses such amazing power to actually cause significant harm to both himself and Pirina in one attack. Piccolo was also able to knock Xiangca out of the arena with a single ki blast.

In the manga version of the Tournament of Power, Piccolo proved at a disadvantage against Hyssop, but was able to effortlessly defeat Dyrasem with a simple energy blast. He than easily evaded a sneak attack from Napapa, blocking the large foe’s assault with a single hand before eliminating him. He also fought on par with Obni. In both the manga and anime Piccolo was able to knock Gamisalas out of the arena with a single energy wave after locating him. Damom was able to knock him back and off the stage, albeit with a sneak attack.

In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, after Piccolo’s training with Gohan, it is noted by Goku that they have both become far more powerful, though Shimorekka states that Gohan is still the stronger of the two, however the duo are no match for the empowered Saganbo, who walks through their combined energy wave with no damage. After Moro locks the Dragon Team inside a barrier with him, Piccolo believes that it may possible for him to wipe out Moro using a Light Grenade self-destruct, however Moro injures him before he can finish charging.

In Dragon Ball GT, Piccolo’s power has grown substantially. During the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, it is remarked by Trunks that Piccolo is one of the people on Earth stronger than him.

During the Baby Saga, Piccolo is referred to as the mightiest Namekian by Baby – and a suitable opponent to test Super Saiyan Gohan’s power on. Piccolo takes a Kamehameha from Super Saiyan Baby Gohan and while he’s not able to resist the attack from his possessed pupil, Piccolo was powerful enough the endure the attack even without guarding and while protecting Goten from it. Though he is heavily injured, he was able to endure it long enough to help Goku with the final evacuation of the people of Earth and provide Goku with enough energy to teleport while in his underdeveloped child form.

When Piccolo reappears during the Super 17 Saga, he decides to become the warden of Hell. Due to his status as someone dead, he’s decided to be sure that none of the residents of Hell are able to escape again. As shown in the Shadow Dragon Saga, Piccolo is doing fine with his position as the powerhouse in hell. Preventing all of the villains from gaining any sort of control, showing that Piccolo has improved to the point where he can handle all of the villains of the past with no problems.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes

In the anime version of the Universal Conflict Saga, Piccolo (with his weighted clothing on) is able to match Kamin in battle. He and Android 17 together can overwhelm Kamin and Oren, causing them to fuse into Kamioren. Working together with Android 17, their cooperation and analytical thinking allowed them to overpower Kamioren despite being weaker than it. Piccolo’s fully charged Special Beam Cannon is also powerful enough to pierce through Kamioren. Against the likes of Ultimate Kamioren and Fused Zamasu however he proves ineffective.

In Dead Zone, Piccolo is sounded defeated after being ambushed by Sansho, Ginger, and Nicky. Later on he fights against Super Sansho and easily defeats him after launching a powerful assault. Piccolo and Goku together battle against Super Garlic Jr. are are initially at a disadvantage but upon removing their weighted clothing, they quickly overwhelm him.

In Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest, Piccolo easily takes down a group of Bio-Men but is taken down himself after being ambushed by the three Bio-Warriors. Whilst being mind controlled, Piccolo without his weighted clothing fights on par with Goku. Upon being free from the control, he fights against Dr. Wheelo but is easily taken down.

In Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Turles’ reads Piccolo’s power level at 18,000. He battles against Turles but is beaten with ease as he blocks Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon with his hand.

In Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Piccolo is able to overwhelm and kill Wings. He is taken out by Medamatcha and Angila while protecting Gohan and later is able to give Goku enough power to allow him to get back to his feet and kill Lord Slug.

In Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge, Piccolo is able to kill Dore with a single energy wave, and turns Neiz’s attack back on him to kill him, he is also able to hold and edge over Salza but is quickly taken down by Cooler before he can finish him off.

In Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, Piccolo, unlike Gohan, Krillin and Master Roshi is the only one to avoid capture at the hands of the Cyclopian Guards and is able to destroy an entire army of them with an explosive wave. He is later taken down by Meta-Cooler.

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, Piccolo is easily down by Super Android 13, unable to harm him even with a barrage of attacks though he is able to grab him from behind and lift up, causing the androids energy blast that was being aimed at Goku to go astray.

In Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, like the rest of comrades, Piccolo is completely outmatched by the might of Broly in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, at one point failing to land a single blow on him even while standing still.

In Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Piccolo fought against Bojack. He appeared to hold his own at first and was able to land a couple attacks on Bojack but in the end it was Bojack who prevailed.

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Piccolo is easily defeated by the God of Destruction, Beerus. He was defeated with ease by two chop sticks to two vital pressure points on the chest.

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Piccolo is able to effortlessly defeat large amounts of Frieza’s elite soldiers. Against the strongest warrior in the Frieza Force, Shisami, Piccolo was able to hold his own, stating to Gohan that he would have won even if Gohan had not stepped in.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, sensing Super Saiyan God Goku’s battle with Wrathful Broly, Piccolo notes that if he came to assist he would probably just get in the way.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

According to Daizenshuu 2, even just upon being born Piccolo was a great fighter as he had access to all of King Piccolo’s memories and techniques.[12]

In Daizenshuu 7, Piccolo’s biography states that after fusing with Nail, their combined power level is “Over 1,000,000” and is enough to defeat Frieza’s 2nd form (who stated in both manga & anime to be over 1 million himself).

Video games

In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, which is set a few years after Kid Buu’s defeat, Piccolo’s power has increased enough that in his “Fuse with Kami” state he is able to fight against a powered up Perfect Cell (though the fight leaves Piccolo tired) as well as against Super Saiyan Teen Gohan.

In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 what if scenario, Destined Rivals, Piccolo is able to defeat Shin in battle without even having to take off his weighted clothing.

In Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, after Goku dies, Piccolo put himself through intense training and becomes strong enough to defeat Majin Buu although he regenerates. Later, Piccolo fuses with King Piccolo and gains his full potential. Piccolo states that a battle against the fat Majin Buu would have been an “easy victory” and Super Buu states that Piccolo is stronger than he is even with weighted clothing on. In the sequel video game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, Piccolo goes under the influence of Babidi, increasing his power above Super Buu’s as well, and later absorbs Super Buu’s power, becoming much stronger.

According to Dragon Ball Z: The Anime Adventure Game, his power is 800,000 after training with King Kai and it is 1,200,000 after he had fused with Nail (which is around Second Form Frieza’s power level of about 1,000,000), it also states that his power is 2,000,000 during the Garlic Jr. Saga.

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu (which covers up the series from Raditz’s arrival to the Frieza Saga finale), Piccolo’s power level in level 48 (the top level in the game, after fusing with Nail, Dende, Tsumuri and Maima) is 1,900,000.

In a special mission in Dragon Ball Z: Scouter Battle Taikan Kamehameha – Ora to Omee to Scouter, Piccolo Jr’s power level is 500,000,000.

In the Universe 6 story DLC for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 due to Goku being missing Piccolo steps up into Goku’s place and defeats Botamo by knocking him out of the ring, and is capable of fighting on par with Cabba when the latter was using his base form, and while in the midst of fighting Cabba, Piccolo was able to move to the opposite side of the ring and save the Future Warrior 2 from Frost’s poison and then swap back to fighting Cabba.

  • Flight – The ability to fly through the use of ki.
  • Ki Blast – The most basic form of energy wave.
  • Ki Sense – An ability that allows the user to sense ki and power levels.
    • Godly ki sense – By the time of Broly, Piccolo has learned how to sense godly ki. Although it’s unclear how he managed to do this, it’s possible he gained or learned the ability from Kami since Kami was originally a deity and could likely sense godly ki like his successor Dende can.
  • Eternal Youth – An exemption from natural death such as from old age or disease, as well as halting age altogether.

Piccolo regenerating his arm

  • Regeneration – The ability to regrow certain body parts or cells that have been dismembered or destroyed and replace them with brand new cells, or simply regrouping all of their separated parts back together.
    • Demon Hand – A Namekian user stretches their arms by expanding and contracting the cells in their body through willpower. This allows them to grab and attack opponents that are out of the normal reach of the user’s unstretched arms.
  • Healing – It allows the user to heal another being’s wounds and restore them to somewhat full strength. Only used in the anime.

Piccolo using Demon Hand

  • Explosive Demon Wave – The user fires a very powerful energy wave shot from a single hand, with the other arm supporting the one that is firing the attack.
    • Dust Attack – The technique is a smaller, less efficient variant of the Explosive Demon Wave.
    • Chasing Bullet – Piccolo uses this attack with one arm supporting the one that is firing the beam itself. The beam is faster than the Explosive Demon Wave and has the ability to home in on its target, with considerable power.
    • Hyper Explosive Demon Wave – Piccolo creates a massive explosion with himself as the nexus.
    • Light Grenade – The user puts their hands together in front of them as they charge a yellow energy sphere in their hands. Then, they bring their hands forward and fires the energy sphere, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
    • Makosen – Piccolo uses a two-handed Explosive Demon Wave similar to the Makosen.

Piccolo firing the Special Beam Cannon

  • Special Beam Cannon – The move is performed by touching the index and middle fingers of one hand to the forehead and charging enough ki to attack. Its speed changes to the power level of the user performing the move. When ready, the fingers are extended forward, and two thin energy beams are unleashed from the fingers. One remains straight while the other coils around the straight beam. The resulting beam is quite powerful, drilling through most targets, and exploding on the ones it can’t. It can also be used with only one arm.
    • Full-Nelson Special Beam Cannon – Piccolo says “sorry to keep you waiting” and fires his Special Beam Cannon at the opponent. Then, Goku sneaks up behind the opponent and puts them in a Full-Nelson so they can not escape. Finally, as the opponent tries to escape Goku’s full-nelson, the Special Beam Cannon impales both the opponent and Goku, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
  • Masenko Beam Cannon – A combined attack utilized by Gohan and Piccolo.
  • Masenko – The attack is performed by the user placing both hands above the head with the palms facing the target and one hand in front of the other with the fingers going in opposite directions. When the user thrusts their hands forward, they call the name and fire a beam of yellow, white, or orange energy.
  • Feel the Pain of the Namekians!! – A technique used by Piccolo against Second Form Frieza where he rush attacks the opponent then blasts them with a powerful energy wave. Named in Dokkan Battle where it appears as Piccolo (Assimilated)’s Super Attack.

Piccolo sets up the Hellzone Grenade around Android 17

  • Scatter Shot – First, Piccolo swings his arms apart and charges an energy sphere in each hand. Then, he yells “Scatter Shot!” as he fires multiple energy spheres against the opponent, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
    • Hellzone Grenade – Piccolo charges up and fires several energy spheres randomly in the opponent’s direction, disregarding accuracy and with no intent on actually hitting the enemy. With efficient ki control, the multiple energy spheres are suspended in the air, completely surrounding them. Finally, Piccolo commands the energy spheres, which change from a yellow to purple color, to rapidly spin around the opponent and inevitably rain down on them with a vicious onslaught from every direction, filling the sky with a blinding light and inflicting a massive amount of damage.
  • Rapid Fire – The user charges energy spheres in his hands and fires them one after another, inflicting a great deal of damage.
  • Risking it all for a friend – A technique in which the user jumps in the way of an incoming Ki Blast to save another.

Piccolo creating multiple clones

  • Cloning – The general ability to split into several identical duplicates to fight as a group.
    • Doppelganger – A cloning technique.
      • Tri-Form – A technique that allows its user to split into three identical duplicates to fight as a group.
    • Multi-Form – The user powers up and splits into two, then those two split clones into four. Unlike the Afterimage Technique, these are tangible clones, not just imprints left by speed. This technique has a quite obvious weakness, however. The four clones are created by the user’s energy level divided into four.
  • Mouth Energy Wave – The user blasts a large amount of energy from their mouth.
    • Explosive Breath Cannon – First, Piccolo yells out “Die!” as he charges at the opponent and elbows them in their stomach before kicking them up into the air. Then, he flies after the opponent and double axe-handle punches them down to the ground, where he teleports beside them and grabs their arm. Finally, Piccolo says “I’ll beat you to death!” as he punches the opponent in their stomach and throws them in the air before blasting them with a yellow Mouth Energy Wave, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
  • Demon Rend – First, Piccolo punches the opponent in the face and knees them in the stomach. Then, he hook kicks the opponent away and extends his right arm to grab them before hand chopping them away.
  • Antenna Beam – A bolt of electricity fired from the antennae.
  • Destructive Wind – First, Piccolo holds both of his arms at his side and charges electricity around his body. Then, he pulls his right arm back and swings it forward to fire a funnel of energy-charged air at the opponent, inflicting a great deal of damage.
  • Eye Flash – The user releases a bright flash of light from their eyes, temporarily blinding the opponent.
  • Eye Laser – The user shoots laser-like beams from both eyes.
  • Thunder Shock Surprise – The user shoots a lightning blast towards the target using both hands, and traps the opponent within an electric field.
  • Evil Containment Wave – A technique designed to seal demons away by sucking them into a container with a special “Demon Seal” ofuda on it. The move requires huge stamina and endurance to perform, if user does not have enough life force they will die soon after performing it, despite the success of the technique. Used a similar move against Great Ape Gohan.
  • Evil Containment Wave Reflection – It allows the user to reverse and capture the user of an Evil Containment Wave into a small container.
  • Explosive Wave – A technique where the user bursts out ki from all over their body in order to repel the opponents around them.
  • Afterimage Technique – An ability to move so swiftly that an image of the user is left behind.
  • Magic Materialization – A magical ability used to create physical matter out of thin air.
  • Telekinesis – A technique that allows the user to manipulate objects and other people with the power of one’s mind.

    • Final Explosion – In a what-if scenario in Tenkaichi Tag Team where Piccolo is taken under Babidi’s influence instead of Vegeta, Piccolo uses the Final Explosion against Buu.
  • Telepathy – It is a way to communicate with others using one’s mind. Users can also read the minds of the ones they communicate with, similar to telepathic eavesdropping.
  • Far-Seeing Arts – Using this art, People in the higher realms constantly observe the situation in the lower realm.
  • Portal Opening – The technique is used when two users create an interconnecting energy beam to each other, which creates a gate between their two different locations.
  • Sonic Kick – A Flying Kick forwards then backwards. First appears in Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden and later appears as one of Piccolo’s Super Skills in Xenoverse 2.
  • All-Out – A power up.
  • Kiai Defibrillation – This is performed by placing one or both hands over the target’s chest and performing chest compressions while releasing Kiai or weak energy blasts directly at the target.
  • Persuasion – A user of persuasion are incredibly persuasive and are able to bring anyone to understand and feel for there viewpoint, and can convince others of virtually anything.
  • Illusion – In the Z-Encyclopedia notes for the Saiyan Saga Episode 3 entry in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot it is stated that Piccolo did not destroy the moon, but instead created an illusion where it appeared destroyed.[15]
  • Reverse-Side Sword Attack – Used by Piccolo alongside Zoro in Cross Epoch.
Agile Style

The character illustration for Agile Style Legends Limited Piccolo (DBL22-03S) in Dragon Ball Legends

This state is the result of Piccolo removes the weighted turban and cape he wears as part of his Demon Clothes. Due to no longer being burdened by the extra weight, his power level increases and he gains a more agile fighting style hence its name. Piccolo normally switches to this fighting style when fighting seriously. Named in Dragon Ball Legends, where it appears as a “transformation” for Legends Limited Piccolo (DBL22-03S) which he achieves via activating his Main Ability, My body feels so light!.

Great Namekian

Main article: Great Namekian

Piccolo as a Great Namekian

In this state Piccolo is referred to as Giant Piccolo. Piccolo transforms into a Great Namekian when he battles against Goku in the finale of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Piccolo is able to use this form due to his status as a Demon Clansman, in this form Piccolo’s size greatly increases, his strength and weight increases, and the form does not impact his speed in a violent way, however his ki does not increase.

As an ordinary Great Namekian Piccolo is about the size of a Great Ape.

Piccolo’s ability to become a Great Namekian is among the abilities copied by Seven-Three during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga indicating Piccolo still has the ability to become a Great Namekian despite having lost his Demon Clansman status.

In Dokkan Battle, it is called Piccolo Jr. (Giant Form).

In World Mission, it is called Giant Piccolo Jr. and appears as a transformation for Piccolo Jr.

Super Giant-Form

Piccolo increases his size even further from before, taking on the “Super Giant-Form”. In this state he is so large he barely fits on the arena and would not be able to take a step other wise he would step off. In this form he is described as being as large as a mountain in the manga, and a volcano in the anime. In this form Piccolo’s weight and physical strength become so great that he was able to pin and almost rush Goku with a single leg.

Mind Controlled

Piccolo under mind control

A state taken on by Piccolo when he is under the control of Dr. Kochin and Dr. Wheelo, in this form Piccolo wears a gold device on his head and his eyes turn red.

Piccolo can use this form in Dragon Ball Heroes starting from JM6.

In Dokkan Battle, this form is called Piccolo (Brainwashed) and it appears as a non-playable boss character during the main story, having been brainwashed by Dr. Kochin and Dr. Gero. However, he is freed by Future Trunks and the Time Patrol.

In World Mission, this form is called Brainwashed and appears as one of Piccolo’s playable forms.

Super Namekian (First Fusion)

Main articles: Namekian Fusion and Super Namekian

Piccolo assimilates Nail

During the Frieza Saga, Piccolo uses the Namekian Fusion with Nail, which greatly boosts his strength and power beyond his previous limitations. After this First Fusion,[17] Piccolo is said to be a Super Namekian. With this, Piccolo is able to fight against Frieza evenly while the tyrant is in his 2nd Form. Through further training, Piccolo in this form is able to easily overpower Android 20 and according to Krillin Piccolo’s power rivaled that of a Super Saiyan. According to Nail if Piccolo had fused with him while he was “whole” he would have been capable of defeating Frieza.

In Dokkan Battle, this form is called Piccolo (Assimilated) and is accessible via activating Piccolo’s Assimilation Active Skill for his Battle as a Namekian Piccolo card.

Makyan Gigantification

Main article: Makyan Gigantification

Piccolo uses Gigantification

By using his ability to change his size, Piccolo is able to emulate the Makyan Gigantification form to increase his power, and then improves upon it by avoiding the decrease in speed that Makyan’s experience, using this form Piccolo gains an advantage over Garlic Jr. in the same form.

Demonic Transformation

Main articles: Black Water Mist and Demon Clan

Piccolo using the Demonic Transformation

During the Garlic Jr. Saga, Piccolo is infected by the Black Water Mist becoming a vampire-like Demon Clansman. However, when Piccolo was infected with the mist, it didn’t have an effect on him, because Namekians are immune to the mist. However, uniquely, Piccolo proved able to take on the Demonic Transformation on his own, presumably due to his past as a Demon Clansman.

Piccolo Jr. was born a Namekian Demon Clansman due to being King Piccolo’s son and reincarnation. As a Namekian Demon Clansman, the souls of people killed by Piccolo Jr. would not pass onto Other World and would remain in limbo unless resurrected. Piccolo lost his Demon Clan status around the time of the Raditz Saga as both Goku and Raditz souls went to Other World after being killed by the Full Nelson Special Beam Cannon.

Super Namekian (Second Fusion)

Main articles: Namekian Fusion, Super Namekian, and Nameless Namekian

Piccolo assimilates Kami

During the Imperfect Cell Saga, Piccolo goes through a Second Fusion[17] by assimilating Kami and becomes a Super Namekian. He is mistakenly referred to as “Kamiccolo” by Goku just after the merger. With this power up, he is able to fight against Android 17 evenly for a short period of time. With further training Piccolo was able to hold his own and for a brief time hold an advantage against the Cell Jr’s in the anime. In the years that followed Piccolo’s power was well behind that of Goku and Vegeta, though his diligent training did allow him to get to the point where he could face powerful foes such as Frost.

Piccolo takes on this state when removing his weighted clothing, while him wearing his weighted clothing is his “base form”.[18]

In Dokkan Battle, it is named Piccolo (Fused With Kami) and is accessible via activating Piccolo’s Fuse With Kami Active Skill for his Kami and Demon King United Piccolo card.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it is a transformation called True Namekian Fusion. True Namekian Fusion Level 1 is unlocked after fusing with Kami while Level 2 and Level 3 can be unlocked through the Super Attack Skill Tree. Level 1 raises damage dealt by 20%, but Piccolo slowly loses Ki over the course of the battle while it is active. Level 2 increases the damage dealt by 30%, while Level 3 increases damage dealt by 40%.

Fusion with Maima and Tsumuri

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu, in addition to Nail, Piccolo can fuse with two Namekian warriors named Maima and Tsumuri while on Namek.

Fusion with Dende

Majin Piccolo

Majin Piccolo in Supersonic Warriors 2

Piccolo transforms into the Majin form in the Majin Piccolo what-if scenarios in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, in the Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team what-if scenario “Majin Piccolo is Born”, and in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai – Another Road. In all three games, he does not have an M on his forehead. In Supersonic Warriors 2, the form makes Piccolo stronger than Majin Buu, and he can resurrect dead characters. Majin Piccolo further powers up in the what-if saga in Supersonic Warriors 2 when he absorbs Super Buu’s power. After Majin Piccolo is beaten, he calms down and returns to his old self. Piccolo is named as Majin Piccolo in Tenkaichi Tag Team and has power somewhat superior to Super Saiyan 2 Goku. In Shin Budokai – Another Road, Piccolo is referred to as mind-controlled Piccolo while in this state, and is not as strong as he is in Supersonic Warriors 2.

As this form reawakens the evil within his heart it is implied that he regains his status as a Namekian Demon Clansman.

Fusion with King Piccolo

Main articles: Namekian Fusion, Super Namekian, and Nameless Namekian

Super Namekian Piccolo with his full potential (after fusing with King Piccolo)

In Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, Piccolo summons Porunga and revives King Piccolo. After a duel in which Piccolo wins, he fuses with his father and becomes truly complete. In this state, he has obtained his full potential. After fusing with King Piccolo, Piccolo’s power is stated to be far above Majin Buu and somewhat above regular Super Buu although Piccolo states after fighting with Super Buu that while stronger he doesn’t have the power to destroy him and Buu isn’t capable of destroying him either. Piccolo also has this form in Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors.

In Jump Super Stars, Piccolo has the ability to fuse with Dr. Mashirito (through the Fusion Dance) for a tag attack, the resulting character using a yelling attack (this fusion might be a reference to the fact that both characters were based on Akira Toriyama’s first editor, Kazuhiko Torishima). In the Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game, Piccolo can fuse with any in-game Namekians through the card “Namekian Fusion” (in game Namekians include: Nail, Kami, King Piccolo, Dende, Guru, and Piccolo himself). In Dragon Ball Heroes, he can fuse any of the three Namekian avatars in the game, though the body kept is the avatars and not Piccolo’s.

They save the train from being hit by Emperor Pilaf and Buggy’s falling Tettiri Number 55 airship using their Reverse-Side Sword Attack. Zoro and Piccolo appear together again in the Dragon Ball × One Piece “Dream 9” promo, yelling that people should watch One Piece after Dragon Ball Kai aired.

List of characters killed by Piccolo

Dragon Ball Z
  • Raditz – Goku held Raditz in place, while Piccolo charged up and fired a Special Beam Cannon, mortally wounding Raditz and killing Goku. Piccolo later finished Raditz off while he was laughing at him.
  • Goku – Shot through the chest with a Special Beam Cannon, killing him and mortally wounding his brother and enemy, Raditz. Goku was later revived with the Dragon Balls.
  • Saibaman – Killed by Piccolo with the Explosive Breath Cannon.
  • Remote tracking device – Destroyed by Piccolo when he was made aware of it by Cell.
  • Sansho – Piccolo smashed the demon into the wall and finished him with an energy blast.
  • A Bio-Man – Piccolo killed one of them with a Mouth Energy Wave during their first meeting.
  • Slug’s soldiers – Most of them are killed by Gohan and Piccolo.
  • Wings – Piccolo broke Wings’ arm, then later shot an energy blast at his head, blowing it clean off.
  • Dore – As Gohan left to take the Senzu Beans to Goku, Dore chased after him, so Piccolo fired a Chasing Bullet at Dore that followed him around. Dore eventually tried to block it, but was unable to, and was destroyed.
  • Neiz – Neiz electrocuted Piccolo, but Piccolo, while electrified, grabbed onto Neiz’s head, electrocuting him and killing him.
  • Salza – Salza was about to kill Goku and the others, weakened from battle, when Piccolo shot a Special Beam Cannon through him, killing him.
  • Cyclopian Guards – Several of them were killed by Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin.
  • Ghost Lord Slug – After the Destron Gas Generator is destroyed, Piccolo kills Slug with an energy wave.
  • Hatchiyack – Killed by the combined efforts of Goku’s Super Kamehameha, Vegeta’s Final Flash, Future Trunks’ Burning Attack, Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon and Gohan’s Super Masenko.
Video games
  • Majin Ozotto – Optionally killed by Piccolo.[19]
  • Xeno Lord Slug – In World Mission, an defused game world Piccolo kills Dark Giant Xeno Lord Slug with a Ki Blast after Demonic Super Namekian had been weakened by Namekian Berserker Kagyu’s Penetrate!.

  • Piccolo is named after the half-sized flute of the same name, continuing his family’s name puns based on musical instruments. In the series, it is revealed that his name means “another world” in the Namekian language. The phrase “Piccolo” is used to open the door of the Namekian spaceship.
  • The name “Piccolo” also means “small” in the Italian language, and, as a surname, was used to denote someone of small stature or height, which is rather ironic given Piccolo’s height and build.
  • Piccolo is Akira Toriyama’s favorite character. He explains thoroughly “I believe mine would be Piccolo. He was the first character in my manga where I was like, ‘He has a scary face, but he’s so cool!’ It really is cliché when bad guys turn into good guys, but it just feels great drawing it!”.[20] However, he contradicts this in an interview with Shōnen Jump where he states that Goku is his favorite character in the series.[21]
  • Piccolo has trained both of Goku’s children: he trained Gohan to fight the Saiyans and Goten to fight Majin Buu. Alongside Goten, he also trained Trunks.
    • He also acts as Pan’s babysitter due to his bond with Gohan and given his experience in dealing with young Earthling-Saiyan hybrids.

The Piccolo Toy

  • Piccolo was temporarily the strongest Z fighter two times. The first was when he fused with Nail, and the second time was after he fused with Kami, his powers surpassed that of Goku and Vegeta’s Super Saiyan at the time.
  • In the second half of the Dragon Ball GT episode “Raising the Stakes”, when Videl is changing to her Great Saiyaman 2 outfit, a small Piccolo toy can be spotted in a box.
  • Piccolo is one of several enemies or rivals to become an ally or friend. Others include: Oolong, Yamcha, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu, then Vegeta, Androids 16, 17 and 18, Majin Buu, and finally Nuova Shenron.
  • Piccolo was the youngest villain in the series, being only three years old when he fought Goku (despite having the physical and mental maturity of a teenager). Conversely, his father was the oldest villain in the series prior to the introduction of the millennia-old Majin Buu, having been an ambiguously high number of decades old when he was released from the Electric Rice Cooker.
  • Piccolo was fittingly born on Piccolo Day, the holiday created by his father. He shares his birth date with his older brother Drum, who was born and died shortly before Piccolo was born.
  • Piccolo’s hobby is meditating in quiet places.[3]
  • Piccolo’s belt is usually colored blue in the anime, though a few video games (such as Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden, Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors and Dragon Ball Online) have Piccolo wearing a red belt.

A statue of Piccolo on Namek

  • In the old temple on Namek in Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku, there are statues of Piccolo.
  • Piccolo is one of the few Namekians actually seen consuming food, as he is seen eating a fish when he was a child. He can also be seen eating at times in Dragon Ball Super despite being aware Namekians only require water.
  • In Xenoverse, he is revealed to also be fond of the special water found in the Time Nest due to its ability to cleanse the mind and soul. As a result, he considers the Time Nest as a kind of utopia for Namekians (due to the fact his people subsist on water).
  • During the fight between him and Goku in Dragon Ball, as well as on the fight with Raditz when he loses his arm, Piccolo is seen with red blood. But later in the series, he bleeds purple blood. In Dragon Ball Super, he was bleeding green blood.
  • Piccolo’s favorite food is water (particularly the thawed ice water from the north area).[3]
  • On the front cover of the VIZBIG EDITION of DRAGONBALL VOL. 12, Piccolo’s skin tone is a pale bluish color.
  • Piccolo is the only known Z Fighter who knows CPR, as seen when he resuscitates Gohan and does multiple heart compressions on Goku after being hit by Hit’s Flash Fist Crush.
  • Piccolo technically succeeded in avenging King Piccolo, as he killed Goku with his Special Beam cannon in the fight against Raditz, but Goku wanted Piccolo to kill him so he could hold Raditz in place in order for the Special Beam Cannon to fatally wound the Saiyan invader.
