One Piece: 5 Characters Kozuki Oden Can Beat (& 5 Who He Can’t)

Kozuki Oden was the son of Wano’s former Shogun, Kozuki Sukiyaki, and the former Daimyō of the lawless Kuri. Because of his charisma and insane power, Oden was looked up to even by the likes of Gol D. Roger, Whitebeard, and Red-Hair Shanks. As a proud Samurai, he wielded Ame no Habakiri and Enma, two of the most powerful blades known in the series.

Oden remains to be the only person who has managed to scar Kaido to date, and as such, he’s a monstrously powerful character in One Piece. Here are 5 characters Kozuki Oden can beat and 5 that he can’t.

10 Can Beat: Ashura Doji

Before the arrival of Kozuki Oden at Kuri, Ashura Doji led the bandits in Kuri and was widely recognized as the strongest man in the region. His strength was such that even the Shogun of Wano, Kozuki Sukiyaki, chose to stay away from him. Upon Oden’s arrival, the entire group of bandits led by Ashura faced Oden alone and were defeated after fighting against him for an entire night.

While Ashura Doji was, undoubtedly, strong, there’s no denying that Kozuki Oden was superior to him in almost every way, as apparent from the fact that the former became Oden’s retainer after fighting against him.

9 Can’t Beat: Kaido

As one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, it’s no wonder that Kaido is monstrously powerful. With the powers of his Devil Fruit, Kaido has wreaked havoc on wherever he’s been to. Over the years, he’s gained a lot of strength, and a display of it was given to Kozuki Oden 20 years ago as well.

When Kaido took over Wano, Oden fought him and was completely defeated, however, he did manage to give Kaido his only scar ever. Despite this, Kaido wasn’t defeated, and Oden ended up dying later when he was boiled alive in Oden soup.

8 Can Beat: Donquixote Doflamingo

Donquixote Doflamingo held the rank of ‘Joker’ as an ally of the Beasts Pirates, and was likely their fifth strongest member after Kaido and his three right-hand men. Doflamingo possesses the ability to use all three Haki types, however, his control over them is pretty basic.

Oden and Doflamingo have never fought against each other, but knowing the extent of Doflamingo’s skill, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he is no match for Kozuki Oden, who has fought and wounded Kaido, a monster. Oden also served as a division commander on Whitebeard’s ship, which goes to show how powerful he really was.

7 Can’t Beat: Big Mom

Just like Kaido, Big Mom is one of the Yonko of the Sea, and is thus automatically classified as a fearsome pirate. She’s the Captain of the Big Mom Pirates and has a humongous bounty of 4.3 billion berries on her head. Big Mom possesses the power of the Paramecia type Soru Soru no Mi that allows her to manipulate the souls of people freely.

Using her homies, Big Mom’s powers are boosted astronomically.  Just as Oden wasn’t able to beat Kaido, he won’t be able to beat Mama either. Strong as he is, it is impossible for him to take her out.

6 Can Beat: Jack the Drought

Jack the Drought is one of the three right-hand men of Yonko Kaido. He possesses an Ancient Zoan type of Devil Fruit known as Zou Zou no Mi, Model: Mammoth, using the power of which he can inflict large-scale destruction. Along with terrifying devil fruit abilities, Jack also has high endurance and durability, as he was able to fight against the Mink Tribe for 5 days and nights continuously.

In a fight against Oden, Jack will most likely fall since he wasn’t able to beat either Nekomamushi or Inuarashi and the two didn’t even resort to using their Sulong form. Oden scarred Kaido, and beating Jack shouldn’t be troublesome for him.

5 Can’t Beat: Whitebeard

Whitebeard was once a member of Rocks, after the split of which he went on to form the Whitebeard Pirates. His ever-growing strength earned him the title of the strongest man in the world of One Piece. Even among the Yonko, Whitebeard was openly known as the strongest, and he was the only man who could match Roger in a fight.

Oden couldn’t possibly beat Whitebeard in a fight which is evident from the fact that he was a division commander under him. As expected, only a few could match up to him and the Wano swordsman certainly isn’t one of them.

4 Can Beat: Queen

Bearing the moniker of ‘The Plague’, Queen is one of Kaido’s three Calamities. He possesses an Ancient Zoan type of Devil fruit, known as the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Brachiosaurus, that allows him to turn himself into the said creature. Queen boasts a high bounty of 1.3 billion berries, although, despite that, there’s little to no chance of him beating Oden.

Kozuki Oden has been portrayed to be a monster ever since he was born, just like Big Mom. He has fought against Kaido and earned the respect of other Yonko. Furthermore, he likely held the same rank as Queen on Whitebeard’s ship, which further boosts his prestige even more.

3 Can’t Beat: Shiki

Also known as the Golden Lion, Shiki is one of the strongest characters in the entire One Piece series. By virtue of his Devil Fruit, Fuwa Fuwa no Mi, Shiki was named the ‘Flying Pirate’. During his era, he was one of the three great pirates, the other two being Gol D. Roger, and Whitebeard.

Out of all the three, Shiki commanded the largest fleet and even the Marines cowered in fear upon hearing his name. Being a rival to the likes of Whitebeard and Roger, there’s absolutely no way that Oden can defeat him.

2 Can Beat: King

King, also known as ‘King the Wildfire’, is Kaido’s strongest subordinate. He’s the user of an Ancient Zoan type Devil Fruit, Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon, which grants him magnificent powers. King’s bounty is unknown, but it is likely going to exceed the 1.3 billion berries mark set by Queen.

Despite possessing remarkable strength, it is almost a given that King will be weaker than Kozuki Oden, based on what we’ve seen. Luffy, despite being as strong as Katakuri (who is in the same league as King), wasn’t even able to graze Kaido. Regardless of how powerful King may be, he won’t be stronger than Luffy who lost bitterly to Kaido. Meanwhile, Oden not only put up a fight against Kaido but also wounded him, showing his superiority over King in the process.

1 Can’t Beat: Gol D. Roger

Gol D. Roger was the King of the Pirates in One Piece, and as evident, the greatest pirate of all time. Being the equal of Whitebeard, Roger possessed tremendous power. Like many others, Roger was attracted to Wano Country as well. At some point, he recruited Oden from Whitebeard’s ship and together, they went to Raftel.

Oden working under Roger is a clear implication that he was, indeed, weaker than Roger. Despite this, he was an integral cog of the crew and his Voice of All Things ability was one of his greatest assets that perhaps even Roger treasured.
