If you’ve a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and trying to update it to iOS 8 using OTA update, then you are probably seeing the “Checking for Update” screen as you can see above.

The issue is expected behaviour with jailbroken devices, as most modern jailbreaks like evasi0n and Pangu disable OTA updates to ensure jailbreakers don’t accidentally install the update.

Pangu jailbreak for iOS 7.1.X released last week to everyone’s surprise by a mysterious team of Chinese jailbreak developers. While Auxo 2 may be impressive, some prefer the look and feel of the original Auxo over the crazy new tricks of its second iteration. A new tweak by the name of Switchr looks very similar to the original Auxo and has almost identical functionality, but has been restyled to fall in place with the visual appearance of iOS 7.

winocm is one of the developers of p0sixspwn, the tool that lets you jailbreak devices running iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 6.1.6. You’d expect him to be a big jailbreaking enthusiast, but in a recent blog post, he says that he finds jailbreaking annoying, and prefers stock iOS.

As you’ve probably heard by now, evasi0n jailbreak doesn’t work with the iOS 7.1 software update released yesterday as Apple has patched a number of vulnerabilities used in evasi0n7, so jailbreakers have been advised to avoid upgrading to it.
