The Dota 2 Asia Championships started in 2015. The first event of this series was known as DAC 2015[1] and as The Oriental[2], is a tournament organized by Perfect World and Mars Media (ex-MarsTV ).[3] With some similarities to The Internationals such as, the quality of recent results of the teams directly invited and of those invited to the qualifiers, the format of the tournament, the release of a compendium, the size of the total prize pool reached by the sale of compendiums together with the initial prize pool, and with the difference of the location of the LAN finals being in Shanghai, China[4], a city in the East, as opposed to Seattle, Washington, USA or Cologne, Germany, cities in the West, the DAC 2015 has been referred to as The International of the East.[5]
December 17th, 2016, during the “Perfect Ceremony 2016”, CEO of Perfect World – Xiao Hong announced Dota 2 Asia Championships will come back in the spring of 2017.[6]
